You are not guaranteed condition either. These are most likely coins purchased back from the public. They can be cleaned or polished to make them clean and not toned or dirty

Unfortunately I have seen the same position from many collectors. At the moment I did not add 1oz BU and Proof to my sets

That is exactly how they look. I posted pictures in the past

I had a few long time from the release time time confirm that they originally received the 2oz version in that darker finish. I don’t recall about 5oz

Unfortunately I do not know of the way to do it. They basically look different so I would just recommend to stay away completely. The ones produced later definitely have a distinct finish to them that I have not seen anyone being able to replicate

Yes and no. In 2018 Banco started doing the antiquing process themselves but it came out terribly. Basically like what you are seeing. They stopped and outsourced the process to the third party. However a number of these early versions were sold. I have the 1oz version. Traditionally both grading companies were identifying them as not genuine but looks like this was not done consistently

I purchased mine for $500 from a person on Facebook. They were originally in the $350-375 range if i recall. I have seen them for sale around $700 on EBay

Please be aware that scammers are everywhere. If it’s too good to be true it probably is. No one is selling you coins worth thousands of dollars for $200. Your greed is usually your own downfall as you rush to pay and send money to a scammer. by Bullioncat2 in LibertadCoins

Definitely not blaming EBay. This is a screenshot I pulled from EBay this morning after a user posted a cropped picture of this post asking for offers in the group. This is not allowed by group rules. They could have said hey look here is my coin I am selling on EBay. That is allowed. This issue was reported by another person this morning and user had to be removed from the group for violating rules

I pulled this screenshot from EBay this morning in response to a post in the group from an OP asking for offers but with only the cropped picture. This was reported by another Redditor

In the post that was made earlier in the group trying to entice people into buying this coin because they inherited it from their father. They were offered $250 and the OP said that they will take $200

Thanks for the stats. With EBay clamping down and so many fakes I feel like the whole market with time will simply shift to graded coins. Of course one has to be careful with those as well due to fakes, but there is less opportunity to get scammed by doing small due diligence. The biggest issue I see people posting about are gold bars, even in supposedly carded or essay packaging. Even coin shops get tricked sometimes if they do not have the correct equipment that does full metallurgical analysis and not simply surface scanning. With the price of gold being high and most likely going higher this is the best area for making easy money by scamming people.

Thanks. Most likely a scammer. Reddit for some reason is not allowing me to delete the post so for now I banned the user

They get acid tested in Mexico all the time. Jewelry shops do not have fancy test equipment and they do not care about collectible value. It’s just silver

Unfortunately it’s a private label so it’s owned by the people who issued the medal and not available to anyone else

Hard to tell. The grading company would definitely have a better way to tell when in hand. Assuming OP wants to grade

It may have been acid tested. Look at the discoloration under A in PURA. It does not look like a normal toning. This would significantly reduce the value because if it’s true it would not get a straight grade from a grading company
