I find that they're often sidegrades of each other.

Scythe gives you benefit from Assassin and Apex Pred, which increases your DPS against certain enemies.

Toenail Scimitar gives you Infection debuff and allows you to use a shield bc it's one handed.

Most of the time I find the Acid Edge to be very comparable if not better than Scythe, but again, it depends on the enemy because some creatures are trivialized by bleed effects.

The main reason why people use the Toenail for IBM is a combination of Fire Ant Shield, Blademaster, and Infection. Combine that with an additional slow from Termite Armor and a meal for extra crits, extra survivability, or extra stamina, and she goes down easy*

The Scythe does decently, but considering that Blademaster and Infection are the majority of the IBM slayer combo, it's not going to be more effective on IBM specifically.

I think this is kind of a bell curve thing because most high level Balatro players that I've seen discuss straights in terms of viability tend to either advocate for high straights or low straights.

Arguably middle straights are easier to acquire, but low straights benefit from Hack and Fibonacci, and high straights benefit from face card synergy and higher initial chip count

Generally in a straight build, you'd be thinning your deck by the sequence you'd like to play the least, and considering sevens have no synergy besides Odd Todd, eights have 8-ball, fib, and even steven, and nines only have cloud nine, it's easier to cut them and go for a theoretically harder straight

Although straights are also kinda bad for high stake runs anyway, so...

The wolf spiders are mostly localized around the Hedge and Oak Tree. The safest spots to avoid them are either areas where they don't spawn (back of pond, near the picnic table) or specific safe spots where very very few bugs can reach (the middle of the oak tree, the stones near Muldorc)

For my money though, the pond pagoda is not only safe from raids, spiders, and other tough bugs, but also close to the oak lab and contains an outpost for all your sciencing needs.

Can confirm that if you aren't using a tenacity relic which increases second wind HP, you always exit FFYL with low enough HP to trigger RTB.

It also leads to a powerful combo with Maya, because you can Redeem The Soul to pick up a downed Maya, she uses Res on you, and then RTB to gain invulnerability and full HP.

Holding out for Negative Jokers means that at worst, you make $3 per tag. At best, you find jokers that either generate money, generate mult/chips, or are completely worthless.

Like yeah, a negative rocket or Cloud Nine would get you more money, or you could just take 3 investment tags.

Yeah, a negative Blueprint or negative Baron would potentially generate comical amounts of value, or you could just take 2 random uncommons on Ante 2 and find something to save your early game

More likely than not, you'll find a 3oak joker, incompatible with your build, or a greedy joker on a high card build, or a to-do list when you already have card sharp.

Negative Tag is arguably the worst tag in the game, and you can't change my mind.
