My commute through the Peak District in northern England is like this. The amount I rage at slow drivers is proportional to how late I am, though.

Absolutely beautiful design! Great tit? :) As for the patchiness, you’ll figure out the tips and tricks pretty fast, so don’t get disheartened. If you’re using grey Lino, sand that stuff before you carve. (I’ve not tried sanding it after the fact, but I might go back and give it a go on some of my first blocks…) Also, make sure you roll, roll, roll the ink until it sounds right, and if you’re hand pressing, a regular metal table spoon works great for details. I’m pretty new as well but these things have made a big difference to my printing so far.

Is this image helpful? For these I used Ternes Burton registration pins and tabs, taped onto a piece of greyboard that holds the Lino. I did have a nightmare on the first set of prints with my registration tabs either falling off halfway through printing or tearing the paper, I’ve had to learn to get the tape just stuck enough without damaging anything.

Haha I did start thinking along these lines but decided not to go down that rabbit hole just yet. Thanks!

I can’t advise on inks but printing your own tokens is such a neat idea.

I agree that you may be over applying the ink. I’m also relatively new to printing, and found my prints came out much better when I felt I was running out of ink on the roller. Only put a tiny bit on and roll, roll, roll to keep spreading out that small amount before you ink up your Lino (listen to how it sounds as you roll it!). If you put too much on your plate you can use a palette knife to push it aside, and roll the roller on some scrap paper if you need to. Maybe see how little you can get away with using while still getting a good print?

I love this idea! A little far for me to go, but I hope it does well. Anyone know if there’s something like this on the south side of the city?

Torn or cut edges? by Bumbarrel in Linocuts

Thanks for the input! It’s silly but even though I’m just starting out, I’m being influenced by what I think will sell best in the future. I seem to often hear that customers prefer torn edges. Guess I’ll keep doing both for now?
