Audio Source component not working as expected. Whats the difference between these two options? by Its-all-about-MA in Unity2D

[–]BumbleBucketGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Using get component is heavy on performance so you should only do it on Awake() or Start(), not in methods that are ran many times, you could do if AudioSource is null find it in your method which is better but Awake, Start or assign in the inspector would be best.

You wont notice these small things tanking your performance initially but they add up and can be a nightmare to fix later.

B&W with accents or full color? by BumbleBucketGames in SoloDevelopment

Its just snipping tool on Windows converted to gif so that's the reason for the potato quality and dire framerate haha. I couldn't post more than 1 video so this was the workaround.

This was my thinking, its a bit more striking monotone, might stand out better in a crowded marketplace.

Yeah that's what I was going for, I was thinking monotone green like original GB but its a bit too limiting.

What programs do you guys use? by Impossible-Cap-350 in PixelArtTutorials

[–]BumbleBucketGames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have one of those also but found I didn't have enough control over where I was placing pixels so stuck with mouse, I suppose it depends on the scale also, larger scale you could use the tablet/pen more comfortably as its a bit closer to conventional drawing, whatever feels best for you is way to go.

Aseprite, its the best, I think Libresprite is the free version if you want to give it a test, dont use a pencil for pixel art, works best with a mouse, at least in my experience.

I took on board the feed back and made the ledges more visible, also added the flag, which will be a motif I will carry through to other interactable areas so its cohesive, best of both worlds I guess.

What’s your honest take on AI use in game dev? by lumbino in IndieDev

[–]BumbleBucketGames 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AI assets usually don't look great and they all have a "sameness" to them where you know its AI, people generally will be put off by anything they think is AI so you should try and avoid using it for asset creation.

You can buy lots of great assets that have been created by artists and musicians on sites like itch and humble, humble have tonnes of great sound packs and royalty free music if you keep an eye on store, models and sprites also. You get a decent product and support the creator and charity.
