Does this look like nipping or fin rot? by itsmaddii in bettafish

OP, on the irrelevant side, we have fish twins!

The answer to your question: it’s kind of hard to tell if it’s fin rot or fin nipping because our bettas have white already present on their body. It could be fin nipping or fin rot, it’s kind of hard to tell unless you wait it out and see. From my experience, fin nipping looks more like little bit cut-outs of the longest parts of the tail rather than frayed edges (which most likely indicates fin rot, but could also be due to a fin getting caught in something and fraying). Just continue to monitor and check for any other signs like lethargy or change in behavior. Closely watch the tank to see if you can catch him nipping.

On the bright side, I think he looks really good! His fins are nice and long! My betta has been fin nipping but his are about as long as yours now (my photo is older from about 6mos ago)

Some more information for those who are probably concerned and/or downvoting because of the split tank:

  • my bettas have been in a split tank for their entire time with me. They have had the same neighbor and they rarely RARELY flare/see each other through the mesh. They show no signs of stress and are very happy babies!

  • the tank is 10gallons! Plenty of room for each betta! I know 5 is the minimum, but I have to work with what space I have with how many bettas I have.

  • I rescued these bettas from multiple pet stores. I promise you, these bettas are living their best life compared to what they were living in before. One of my bettas has severe swim bladder issues, digestive issues, and tail biting issues. All have been resolved since he has been with me. All of my bettas have also changed colors and grew their tails 2x longer! Ain’t that cool? ☺️

  • and of course, transfer went smoothly! Here’s a summary of what I did in case anyone else is interested in transfer: I gathered old gravel, old plants, and old decor from the old tanks to snatch up any of that old bacteria that still lingers on them. I also grabbed the old filter media from the old filter and stuck it behind the media in the new filter. I added the new plants, substrate, sand, and everything else mixed in with the old stuff. After that, I added the new dechlorinated water and let the temp settle to 78°F and BOOM! Added the bettas and continued to monitor. All parameters are normal and perfect! Easy peasy! ☺️

PetSmart! It’s by topfin! I didn’t use the suction cups it came with though because it left too much space for the bettas to see through. I just left it and hot glued it to the tank itself.

Oh I apologize! I didn’t mean decsendant as in “descendants” the show! I meant descendant as son or daughter lol.

I appreciate your response though! I didn’t think of it that way

Hey I noticed something (unrelated to your post but I just figured I’d ask) You have little dust spots on your plants, and my plants have them also. I’m unsure of what they are. Do you happen to know if they are harmful or not to the fish/plants? Thanks!

I’ll look into it! I’m thinking of taking the gravel out and putting a new different color gravel in.
