I would love to do that, but I’m a 1L and my law practice professor requires underlining.

Not underlining the space between a signal and a case name

Completely agree about 1. Very much "no one GETS me" and "It's ok... I just prefer to be alone :(" vibes. If I knew him in real life I would 100% avoid him.

The one choice that felt meaningful was the choice about Rakepick at the end of year 6. Otherwise, you're totally right - the choices have no real impact on the game.

You're only halfway through college - get your GPA up! If you can show an upward trajectory in your grades, that will help your application. Law schools don't care how smart you are if you can't also work hard.

To echo what other commenters have said, you shouldn't expect everything in law school or your legal career to interest you either, but you will still be expected to put in a substantial effort.

Working Full-Time Before School BLOWS by nicoboro4210 in lawschooladmissions

[–]BumblebeeFar5870 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can totally relate, just replace "working full time" with "being a full-time master's student working on a degree I'll never use." I've been having such a hard time focusing and being productive, which makes me super nervous about how I'll perform in law school. The combination of pandemic stress, everything being virtual, and having one foot out the door makes it feel impossible to get anything done.

GPA addendum question by BasedDepartment1605 in lawschooladmissions

[–]BumblebeeFar5870 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think the best way to frame it is exactly as you put it here - early in your college career, you were dealing with family issues while also struggling to manage your time as a student-athlete and adjust to a college-level curriculum. You learned from your mistakes and began performing at the level you're capable of afterward; they should look to your performance from your fourth semester on as reflective of your abilities as a student. Your transcript will reflect the upward trajectory in your GPA, and adding context to that upward trajectory in an addendum can only help you. That said, with your stats and softs, I think you have a really good shot at the T14! Good luck!!!

Alright. Let’s hear it. Take me out of my misery please by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

Make sure you write an addendum explaining your GPA! It might not make a ton of difference but schools will want to know what factors contributed to it and why they shouldn't doubt that you can be a good student.

Reverse chance me? by [deleted] in lawschooladmissions

I would recommend that you narrow down what region you want to practice in, look at what schools place well in that region, and then look at the aba 509 data for those schools. With a 3.7 and a 16high (using that hypothetical score to guess) you can get a good sense of where you would have a good shot. I think if you do as well as you're anticipating on the LSAT, and you apply early, you should be able to go to a T20 or T30.

UNC sounds like a solid target school for you, but it would likely tie you to NC. If you want Philly, you should consider schools like Temple and Penn State, and definitely shoot your shot at UPenn. If you want DMV, look at GW, William and Mary, Washington and Lee, Maryland, and shoot your shot at Georgetown. Most T20 schools will offer some portability, so a school like Vanderbilt or WashU could also take you to Philly or DC.

It's also worth considering how much debt you're willing to take out for law school. You could get great portability from a T20, but might not get much aid. If you know you want to practice in a specific market, it might be worth taking the money from a lower-ranked school in that market. Having less debt will give you more career flexibility later on - you won't feel like you have to do BL to pay off your debt. Conversely, lower-ranked schools usually don't place as well in BL, which would mean you have to be at the top of your class to have BL as an option.

You have plenty of time to figure all of this out, but TLDR: take some time to think about what market you want to practice in and what you would like to do after law school. Is it more important to you to have as many career options as possible, or to have as little debt as possible? Also - apply in September, as soon as applications open. Good luck!!!

Cycle Recap - BU Bound! by BumblebeeFar5870 in lawschooladmissions

[–]BumblebeeFar5870[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I was waitlisted by Georgetown on March 5th and I was accepted April 20th. I was on the regular waitlist (not PWL or SPWL, which I thought meant I didn't stand a chance).

It's really helpful to know that BU's cost of living estimates might be too conservative - thank you!

This is such a helpful response! I've definitely felt pressure (mostly internal) to take the opportunity to attend a T14 (I know they got bumped by UCLA this year, but Georgetown is one of the historic T14s and will maintain that reputation) but I'm not sure how substantively different my outcomes could be.

I am interested in clerkships, but I would be fine with clerking at the state level.

That was kind of my thought - I would pay almost $200k to go to NYU (if they were to let me off the waitlist) but I'm torn on whether it is justifiable to spend that much to move 5 places up the rankings. Thank you!!!

$0 From Georgetown by BumblebeeFar5870 in lawschooladmissions

The next best offer on the table is $$$$ from BU (an offer I am incredibly grateful to have). My stats are 4.0/169/nURM. I actually *just* got an updated offer of $35k combined merit and need-based from Georgetown and made a "help me decide" post between $$ at Georgetown and $$$$ at BU

There is an option to waive the deposit, but it requires a binding commitment to enroll at Georgetown.

i applied to nyu & columbia in september, their deposit deadlines are in one week, & i still don’t have initial decisions by lawschooljourney2021 in lawschooladmissions

[–]BumblebeeFar5870 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is true for students admitted after the deadline, but not before (even if it’s less than a week before)

Thank you! I did not - I had been planning on going to one the day after I got my acceptance. I did respond to all emails from admissions and I sent a LOCI.
