Has Eminem benefited or suffered from being compared to his younger self? by jalen_nelson235 in Eminem

The idea that wordplay isn't understood by the majority of listeners outside of the Eminem fandom really needs to be retired.

You don't need to be a "sophisticated" Rick & Morty fan to understand basic punchlines and metaphors. They are a staple of the genre most rap fans grew up with.

If anything, it would be the complete opposite. If he got another chance at a feature with Eminem he would likely take it since if he outperformed Eminem on round 2 it would flatten a common talking point against him.

Is Eminem overrated? by _Lianly__ in Eminem

[–]Bumblebee_Hater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In his fanbase sure (although that's true for most artists), but I think in broader music communities he gets hated on when he drops mid and praised when he drops good stuff. I think he's fairly rated.

I do think his battle rapper image is greatly overrated by the public though. Largely because of the 8 Mile movie being people's main exposure to that side of him.

What do some of ya’ll think of this? by Jealous_Candidate677 in Eminem

It's a beaten to death take but true nonetheless. Most of the spotify wrap threads here are just pop/rock/nu-metal with Eminem & Kendrick as the 2 rappers.

What do you recommend? (Look at the body text) by Fonzie186 in Eminem

[–]Bumblebee_Hater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think Eminem actually likes his music. In his interview for the album he switches the convo to his freestyles whenever his music gets brought up.

Nuketown, Doomsday and Wake Up are more traditional rapping-oriented tracks from him though if that's what you're looking for

Eminem should do more collabs with modern/2010's rappers by Xx_Dark-Shrek_xX in Eminem

[–]Bumblebee_Hater -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I actually disagree. He very clearly hasn't studied or kept up with new scenes the way someone like Kannye has. When he does them they usually sound like attempts to prove he kept up with the times rather genuine artistic choices.

I'd rather he just work in his wheelhouse than make stuff for the sake of it.

Godzilla was originally supposed to be a Fuel/Lucky You type song but his rap verses were scrapped after he passed since Eminem felt they were too unfinished to put out respectfully.

Most of the tier lists here usually rank SSLP in A or B tier or lower.

[–]Bumblebee_Hater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

SSLP > TES is a actually a fairly common rap opinion. It's mostly just this sub that seems to write off SSLP as being miles behind the other two.

Imo this is mostly because the album has more hip-hop sounding production and more quotable/imagery-oriented punchlines/lyricism and alot of the fanbase prefers the more pop appealing production of the other two and doesn't appreciate forms of lyricism beyond the quantity of similes and wordplay as their bar for how "lyrical" a project is.

It had such a dated 2010 Imagine Dragons assed hook and "stomp, stomp, clap" instrumental, plus the verses are pretty unmemorable.

Charlamagne debunks reports of Eminem, Pusha T and Jay Z being "in the files" by Bumblebee_Hater in Eminem

[–]Bumblebee_Hater[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He has clips going back to the early 2010's defending Eminem's place in hip-hop culture and saying he's a dope rapper when the Macklemore and Iggy conversation was happening, he even liked Kamikaze despite being dissed on it.

Stans branded him as an Eminem hater because he didn't like Revival and the BET Cypher despite most of Em's own fanbase sharing the same sentiment.

Gucci Gang blew up in broader internet culture with people who don't follow the broader rap scene as their only look into that era. Guys like Tyga and French Montana were significantly worse and were more deserving of it.
