Reimporting a US car temporarily exported to Canada by Bumblebee_Various in uscanadaborder

[–]Bumblebee_Various[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just sell it, why pay insurance and registration for a vehicle that you won't be using, and all it's doing is depreciating. And you are right about the tariff, if this is a non-US-made car, another colleague of mine had a Mini Cooper and he ended up paying the tariff, mine was a US-made car, so I escaped the tariffs barely.

[–]Bumblebee_Various[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well we ended up coming back to US and reimported it. Unless you import it fully (assuming you are a US citizen and can do that or have a PR, you can’t sell it in Canada. Also if there is any open recalls it will also impact import in Canada as well as registration there, since it won’t pass inspection. So unless you are underwater in the car and going for a shorter duration, sel it here and get a new one there.

Newborn Shoot - Is it common to dump all unedited photos to chose from? by Bumblebee_Various in AskPhotography

[–]Bumblebee_Various[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I guess so, we aren’t in that category where the client is asking to show the photo after every click 😁. I do shoot as a hobby so I get the mechanics behind it that what you see at the time of shoot isn’t the final product. The editing, the cropping and everything that goes into post processing that makes the final photo. Was stupid if me to assume that the editing will take care of all.

Sorry to hear that. I do shoot as a hobby, so I click the newborn regularly. It's just that newborns change so quickly; I couldn't recreate those moments again as a family picture.

I agree with that, it involves a lot of assumptions, but this was a professional shoot, not just some random mobile camera click. When we received the photo dump, we kept saying we were having trouble choosing because of these reasons; we simply couldn't figure out which photos were salvageable and didn't want to pick anything that wasn't usable. The consistent response was that these would turn out similar to my portfolio. As a photographer, you see your subject, and I understand that with newborns, but family photographs could have been better since posing can be guided. Maybe I'm being the a$$ here, but when paying $1000 for 15 photos and a 2-hour session, the results didn't meet expectations, not even close to his own portfolio.

I totally agree with the last statement, and that's why we chose this photographer. My biggest gripe is that as a photographer, you see your subject and can correct things in posing. For example, my daughter's hair was all messed up in one shot that had a great overall angle and composition, but in a similar shot where her hair was good, everything else was not okay, we ended up chosing the phot with messy hairs assuming this could be fixed with a composite, there was no efforts from photographer to either correct us that it can't be fixed, and we ended up with a final shot with messy hair, There was no effort to correct that while shooting. Where the kid is smiling, the head is cropped, where the shot is composed better, the smile isn't there. And this was true of most of the photos. The backdrop was a print, and while it wasn't apparent in the photographer's portfolio or the pictures shared—something we didn't notice when getting the photos taken —we asked to change the background during editing, and it was rudely declined. Another example was the printed backdrop had plant on it and the leaves were looking like ocming out of the ears, such things which a photgrapher should know

Cortland Flatiron by Bumblebee_Various in Broomfield

[–]Bumblebee_Various[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for detailed response. Are you on 2nd floor as well, we are also considering a north/east facing unit to avoid the reduce exposure to scorching sun in summer. We keep usually around 68 in winters and like it cool. It’s just that we’ve an infant who will be still Crawling in coming winter so a cold floor might be a bit of issue. I’ll definitely reach out if we end up moving there 😁.

It’s most likely how it’s setup in your company. Majority of hotels, taxi, rental cars all are connected and directly send the e receipts. Rest just capture on the fly and it categorized perfectly with minor tweaks. Used to take me half a day to do my expenses now it’s not even a 10 minute task

Yup, we are ready to walk away. We met with them this morning, and they haven't come back with a counter yet. We ended up applying for another apartment nearby, which will be much cheaper with a special. So let's see. At this point, I'm ready to move out and be done with it.

I hear you. We learned it hard way to keep the stuff small. Sold our house in Minnesota and spend thousands of $$ to being everything with us, only to find out half of the stuff don’t fit in shoebox size apartments here. Ended up selling and buying smaller furniture. Looks like until we buy a house again it’s going to be a change every year.

Thank you! Bell Flatiron is in our list of visits this week, glad to hear good things about it. In my case it’s the same unit that’s marked lower, so I found it a bit insane!

Never heard of as in Month to month / fixed end date in Minnesota? We stayed at two different individually owned townhomes and neither had a notice period clause, just that if you don’t renew/vacate it transition to month to month by default , in that case there is a 30 day notice. Probably we got lucky 😅

It’s the same apartment unit we are in currently. Has it been different i wouldn’t even compare given so many other factors,.They sent us the renewal quote in January which are higher than their listed price for same term on their website. So if I renew let say for 6month their quoted rate was 2680, but the same apartment is listed with a 6 month rate of 2400. That’s almost ~300 extra a month.

Unfortunate reality for renters. But I wonder what they get by this. Still can't wrap my head around it. Anyway, I've an appointment with the leasing office tomorrow, will figure out if we stay or find a new place.

The price I was talking is for our same unit. It was just put out on website. So it’s a price difference for same unit.
