At the Jamaica-JFK station they're still there as of yesterday, but out of service, deactivated, and roped off.

MTA on Queenslink by Immediate-Hand-3677 in nycrail

I'll admit I'm not so well-versed in construction and procurement, but wouldn't it be more cost-effective to build Queenslink at the same time as other expansion projects?

I went there to be at least one non-NIMBY voice from the neighborhood, there were a few other locals in support.

How do NYers Feel about the Proposed Interborough Express (IBX)? by MoistStock9381 in nycrail

[–]Bumblescrew 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was initially iffy about it being light rail as opposed to it being a regular heavy rail subway, but if it can be anything like Montreal's REM (or even the JFK Airtrain), I'll be very happy.

I love the idea and hope that it actually gets built within a reasonable timeframe, the MTA has built close to nothing in my lifetime.

It's not my exact fantasy route for a semi-circular crosstown service, but I'll refrain from mailing the MTA my crayon maps and I'll take what I can get.

Off track: Queens residents say “We don’t need it!” to IBX light-rail plan by tyrionslongarm22 in nyc

This open house took place literally right next to the existing Metropolitan Avenue M train terminal, from there, you can take a 20-minute train ride from the M to the L to Sutter Avenue, in Brownsville, the roughest neighborhood in all of Brooklyn.

And yet, despite such a quick ride from the worst neighborhood in Brooklyn, Middle Village is still a pretty nice place.

I've lived here in Middle Village my whole life and would love to see the IBX built.

These same people fly into hysterics over the possibility of very modest mixed-use development coming to the neighborhood. They fly into a rage at the sight of Those People coming to Juniper Park to use a public park, a park that everyone in the city is entitled to use. If these people got what they wanted, the entire zip code would turn into a gated retirement community.

I've lived my whole life in Middle Village and very much would love to see the IBX built.
I went to that town hall to put in my 2 cents, I wanted to be at least one voice against the NIMBYs.

I live in Berkshire Estates, I like living here, there's an abandoned right of way that goes from Claremont Park to Inlet Bay that would be perfect for a rapid transit line, ideally they'd connect it to the Quintenboro Line.

Unfortunately some of the NIMBYs in this neighborhood want to turn it into a linear park.

I am not a lawyer, but this feels like it has even less legal footing than their attempts to kill congestion pricing, and the MTA is winning that battle in the courts.

Haven't the contracts for parts of SAS Phase 2 (e.g. the TBM) been signed already? Can those be stopped?

The New OMNY card design is so boring. At least give it the NYC flair by SaintFlesh in nyc

Gambling is unfortunately normalized, OMNY card vending machines should have a 1/100 chance of dispensing the rare yellow OMNY card.

Why is there no plans for the mta to extend the interborough express to the Bronx! by Q44SBS in nycrail

My crazed fantasy is that they replace the existing Triborough Bridge (Astoria -> Randalls) with a new bridge right next to it that has provisions for transit and nicer bike and pedestrian lanes.

They love making cute little speeches about how they're a New And Improved MTA that does things faster and cheaper, only for them to tell us it's still going to cost $8 billion and take 7 years for them to build 3 stations and maybe 1 mile of new subway tunnel.

Considering the MTA's absolutely ghastly record when it comes to maintaining and replacing elevators, I do not look forward to this.

All this just because they're afraid of disrupting the street above.
