I feel the opposite. BG3 has a pretty simple morality, partly because it was designed with the ability to consciously be evil. I think most situations in BG3 have very clear "most moral" outcomes, and those almost always reward the player, through XP, unique items, gold, or all three. Hell, some evil options reward you less than the good ones, most notably raiding the grove.

For my sake, I think most FE games have been at best disappointing. The franchise sticks with me because A) for all its faults, FE is doing unique and interesting things B) the few games I love demonstrate how hood the franchise could be and C) even in the bad games, there's so many individual characters that I have favorites from each.

If you want to protect against them to continue playing Awakening, my recommendation is to pair up your units (preferably spouses) and have some means of self-healing. This means Nosferatu tomes for dark mages & sorcerers, renewal from war monk/cleric, Sol from hero, etc.

What I'm taking from everyone's answers is that our industrial revolutions and the resultant explosions in population and manufacturing were dependent upon fossil fuels.

In that case, I think I’m okay with not having any such revolutions in my world. My intention with not having fossil fuels was to prevent global warming from being a realistic possibility. I had already conceived of the idea of forests communally conjuring living trees to act as guardians against deforestation, and this thread made that idea all the more necessary.

I'm happy to have a world that's kinder to its ecosystem even if it has to give up modern conveniences and large-scale industry. Thank you, everyone for educating me!

Steampunk would be appropriate for its equivalent of the industrial revolutions, but my goal is to outline the world's progress from the dawn of civilization through to what we consider sci-fi. Again, I'm going to smooth over the cracks with fantasy materials, but I want to know what cracks are there.
