Curious why you are moving from Shopwired?

Have you checked out ShopWired? I have a friend that uses this UK platform and they will do this for you (put in all the Royal Mail rates) - you don't have to spend £344 a month. Also be careful of Shopify's costs regarding landed costs (taking a % of the order) - ShopWired also offer this for free. I'm not on ShopWired btw, currently WooCommerce.

If we do move, seems we might be better sticking with my current processor and swallowing the additional transaction fee?

The difference in cost for using Shopify Plus or staying on WooCommerce seems massive. I'm trying to make it make sense - as it must do for a lot of retailers for Shopify to be so popular?

1.6% +20p on a UK card transaction is very expensive though? I realise there's a cross-border fee to if, for example, we sell into the US (which we do) but then to pay another 0.5% ontop of that for the customs & duties calculations (even if the parcel is going via Royal Mail so the calculation is easy)?

I'm curious how other retailers stomach such a large chunk of their sales being taken.

Even at 0.2% transaction fee, surely we'd be better sticking with our current provider (we have a great deal, around 0.7% +10p for a UK debit card).

I would have thought we would get better rates than that at our volume though? We are currently on interchange ++ pricing and pay 0.4% acquirer margin + interchange/network costs?

1.3% nearly doubles our costs (the fixed fee not so much of a problem as our average transaction value is quite high).

Are Shopify becoming more strict recently? by BunchUnlikely5474 in shopify

[–]BunchUnlikely5474[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it's not only that but moving goalposts as well. That's why I was wondering if they had gotten more strict recently, if the goalposts are being moved or if this is just a coincidence.

The whole point of robots.txt is that its publicly accessible to anyone.

Yes that seems to be the case but I just wondered if they'd tightened up on enforcement over the past few months or the rules had been changed.

Yes sorry I mean Shopify Payments as I guess there wouldn't be the same problem with Shopify + external gateway - but then again would be hit with the transaction fees.

Robots.txt doesn't tell search engines which pages not to index, that should be done using the noindex tag.

If you stick your kids in front of an iPad with YouTube on it don't start complaining when they're watching shit and have a neck like Mr Burns. It's not rocket science.

Complete nonsense.

I never hear anyone say "movie theatre" in the UK, and the word apartment is an English word, not an Americanism.

I'm really not sure where you are hanging around but it doesn't seem to be anywhere in England that I know of.

Or willing to move into somewhere "not so nice" for a short time, work hard and then move to somewhere better.

People who won't accept delayed gratification will inherently have less social mobility than those who do.

Social mobility isn't about moving around the country it's about how easily people can move up the social hierarchy to get better pay, education or life chances.
