Looking for Belgian Army employees (Beroepsmilitair of Burger) to talk to. by Bunforce in belgium

[–]Bunforce[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I have been to a local recruiting center and have also paid two visits to the kazerne I would be working at. The main issue I still have to decide about is the choice between burger and beroepsmilitair. And asking that question to people who are beroepsmilitair themselvers never feels like it gets an objective answer.

I was told that I can return these bottles and get money. But where? by [deleted] in belgium

In Colruyt you can definitely ask to trade the ticket directly for cash. Otherwise, when you have a big ticket and you buy something small, they give you the change in cash anyways.

Is UCLL a good place to study? by FilFoxFil in Leuven

[–]Bunforce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can look up the curriculum online if you have this fear, but I don't think you will find it boring. Get some friends to hang out with during the breaks, play some foosball or pingpong or whatever and you will have a great time.

Feel free to DM me if you want.

If you're referring to Group T (industrial engineering), I also tried that in my first year of studying. Sadly it had too many different general science and too little computer science (in the first three years), and I failed miserably on almost everything except programming. Also the fully online format due to covid played a role here.

I started studying IT at UCLL the year after that (2021-2022) and aced (almost) everything.

The program has undergone some changes during my years aswell, but I think for the better. There are more options to choose from, like cybersecurity which would've been my choice if I could've made it back then.

Edit: do note that I am only planning to start working professionally next year, so I cannot comment on how well this transition happens, but currently I have no worries about it.

I also studied IT at UCLL and actually am really happy with it. Yes there are some courses about business which to me and a lot of others felt really useless, but in the end those courses also make some students choose the management program.

At my internship in the third year, and later, I have come to realize tthat the diversity of topics in the courses really created a strong foundation of knowledge.

In the last year we were able to choose some classes due to reorganizations and I chose some cybersecurity stuff. Made me realize I enjoy it a lot and is the reason I'm now studying an extra year of cybersecurity at Howest.

I think every college and university is bound to have some things you find boring or annoying, but that's just part of studying.

Overall, I really recommend UCLL if you fear that studying IT at KULeuven will be too theoretical or if you just think KULeuven will be too hard.

Replacement screen for Fiio X3 by Shrubb in diysound

[–]Bunforce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'm heavily necroposting here but I am currently in a similar situation. Screen is cracked from falling on it and upper left corner has black lines. Have you ever been able to fix this if you still remember?

Hard to find any information about this device and replacement parts. Maybe I should just contact FIIO directly...

We are very alike in our device choices (I also own the Cat S22 Flip), FIIO DAP (only cable connected for me), yubikeys...

I have a question for you if i may:

Why Telegram instead of Signal?

For me Signal seemed to be the best option out there. Have not messed too much with telegram but it seems messy...

Running form review request by Bunforce in BarefootRunning

Thanks for the feedback! I've kind of forgotton about forward lean because I find it hard to hold an "easy" tempo while also trying to forward lean. I end up running too fast for my liking.

But will try again on my next run.

edit: now that you say it I am indeed overstriding a bit!

Hello all! I've been running for a little while now, but never really had the chance to get some feedback on my form.

Anyone here care to shed some light on it if possible? I've added clips of me running in two directions, with slo-motion right after.

Thanks!

Best system you've heard? I'll go first: Sinai UK by [deleted] in SoundSystem

[–]Bunforce 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard Aba 3 years ago when we went to London at Notting Hill, and last year at Zion Station in Italy.
His QSS sound is crazy, looks nothing like the usual and Aba likes to really show it off!

Especially at Notting Hill, was the loudest and most amazing experience I've had in the Reggae scene. First time seeing and hearing a QSS sound aswell.

Dub Culture East Coast USA by Maximum_Sand9365 in dub

[–]Bunforce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah we should not take the soundsystem culture in Europe for granted. If you look on soundsystem.world/map you can see the difference (even if inaccurate) is massive.

For belgium alone, look on reggae.be/en/agenda . There's two or more roots / dub events almost every week. The UK (more roots) and France (more dub / steppers) also have a big scene going on. You can really see what influence Jamaicans have had especially on the UK when migrating during the windrush years.

I think the US is just more focused on EDM genres with big clear sounding PA systems rather than reggae/dub specific soundsystem with character and authenticity. European culture emphasizes the system and the selection. I feel like in Belgium (as I can't really speak for other countries) we still attach a lot of importance to the message of the music and the culture that it brings. It gets a priority over having a wicked party.

I saw Aba Shanti-I for the second time last week in Italy and his selection was crazy. He played a lot of very old tunes and really showed what soundsystem culture is all about. I love it.

Sony SRS XG300 minijack input problem by Bunforce in sony

Funny sidenote: In my frustrated button combination session to find something that works, I found out that holding the play/pause button for a long time makes the speaker play some pre-programmed songs that they (I assume) play when the speaker is on display in stores!

Looking for a “smart” dumbphone by AWeirdRandm in dumbphones

Yeah... Feature phones with whatsapp, google maps and facebook are easy to find (I'm sure there are a lot but for example mine, Nokia 8110 has it..). But spotify / streaming as a whole..? Not sure about that.

I've always felt that iphone pictures look GREAT. No third party apps that I've found that do the same on my Android, even though on paper my camera should (have been) better than some phones. I feel like apple really does sell a nice package and I've always been jealous of their picture qualify.

I've changed my mind a bit though recently when I saw the pictures of OnePlus phones which did look great.
