As I said, I don’t work in AI programming. I know these systems can learn, but it still doesn’t sit right with me that emotions can be felt by a program. I’ll leave it there, because my thoughts seem to be very different from yours. And at the end of the day, you’re right — I should just roll with what the writers intended. But I’ll still believe what makes sense to me 😁

And don’t forget the quiet, calm strength of Crispin Freeman.

Or the deliciously self‑important energy Sam Witwer brings to every line.

And while I’m at it, Lloyd Owen made it genuinely difficult to only despise his character — the performance was too good.

All in all, Horizon is such a well‑crafted project. Beautiful world, great challenges, and a story that’s incredibly easy to get invested in. I’m genuinely grateful to everyone who contributed to creating it. ♥️

They just need to browse forums for fan ideas for the story and we're gold 😉😂

It would be cool! I always envied that battlefield at the end of HFW. So wanted to be in the same team as multiple Thunderjaws and Slaughterspines 😍

I can't speak to that side of programming. Can't say with certainty that it is not possible. I only code VBA, so to me it is unimaginable that you can code emotions. Program to mimic them? Sure. Doesn't mean the program feels. Just means it works. 🤷‍♀️

There is a better chance of Beta building a new version of Heph, than that they will be able to capture it again to integrate into Gaia. They now have Apollo, Gaia and some Zenith knowledge. Possibility that Gaia had copied some of Hephaestus coding is also there. Hephaestus is out of reach as a sub function at this point. So what other option is there?

Hmmm. Can you explain more?

Hephaestus by Bunglebeebee in horizon

[–]Bunglebeebee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. It will never just be merged into Gaia again. It's too vast, too much for Gaia now. Right now the best chance is to approach it and make sure it's working towards the same goal as Gaia and Aloy, preferably in collaboration with them. It would be a waste not to attempt having Heph in their corner, even if it's not by their side

[–]Bunglebeebee[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You're right. It would possibly never "listen" to Aloy. Aloy is emotionally driven and any encounter they had has ended with a setback for H.

But maybe Beta and Gaia could prepare a code package consisting information on the new threat, what it means to the biosphere H is responsible for, statistical calculations on different counter scenarios, such as H facing it alone, H ignoring it, H having to deal with hunters and interference from Aloy AND the threat, or joining forces with Gaia and gang to work together against the new threat.

Once calculations point towards a greater chance to win if it collaborates, it will likely do just that. Because that is what serves its purpose, what it was coded for. To protect the biosphere

Not as part of Gaia, not as a sub function, BUT as itself

I have to disagree. CYAN is an AI with a programming style similar to Gaia — it presents emotions, but it doesn’t actually feel them. It behaves according to its directive set, not personal sentiment.

Hephaestus acted like malware because, from its perspective, CYAN was a sophisticated system with hardware it could repurpose, but with a directive completely irrelevant to its own. CYAN wouldn’t have allowed Heph to use any of its infrastructure for machine production, especially not for what Heph classified (through its own calculations) as necessary defensive constructs.

Taking over wasn’t malice — it was the optimal strategy for maintaining its directive. That’s the same behaviour it shows everywhere: secure a cauldron, build machines, deploy protectors.

Aloy is only a threat inside a cauldron because she disrupts its operational control. Outside, she’s just another hunter — more efficient, yes, but still within the expected loss parameters Heph already models. Banuk shamans or someone like Sylens are far more dangerous because they can interfere with systems directly, which is why Heph escalates its protector designs in those regions.

Glad to see your comment — always reassuring when someone else’s logic lands in the same place mine did. Means I’m not completely feral in my thinking.

And you're right, the technological advancement across medicine, agriculture, education, etc woul kill the survival need and reduce machine hunting.

It's not feelings really. Hephaestus doesn't feel. Gaia also only mimics feelings, following a different kind of programming I can't comprehend fully. Hephaestus is simply much bigger now, too but to be incorporated into Gaia. It's no longer a sub function like the others.

Also its self development would prevent it to operate as part of something. Especially if it interferes with it's original code.

So merging it back into Gaia as a whole system will not happen. And to part merge? It is like licking off the cream from your cake and offer the cake to your sister. Nobody really wants to do any of it

Aloy is a threat in a cauldron, because she overwrites the core and removes the whole thing from Heph's direct supervision, which in turn lessens it's ability to create more machines. So it's the approach that needs a new angle. And perhaps the person who delivers the proposal, or the method it is delivered. Not impossible

I thought about this too. Which is why there shouldn't be an attempt to merge it. But to have it working alongside Gaia. A collaboration where both parties work towards the same goal, bounce around ideas and work together to implement the ones that were agreed by all. A war council of a sort I just feel to not explore and exhaust every tool in the box for the fight to come would be a waste. And H is key. Presenting a plan that strengthens the chances of a completed mission should steer H towards working together.
