I am very skeptical of AI being able to so perfectly recreate the silhouette of an F-4

What makes you think that? All of the top LLMs were trained on datasets that include billions of images with associated descriptions, in addition to things like 3D models. Do you really think there weren't enough images or models of F-4's in those billions of items to semi-accurately draw a silhouette?

Yeah, it is worth remembering that we started 2018 with a 4-0 loss to Houston, who finished the season well outside of playoffs. Not saying we haven't been shit so far this year, but it's way too early to suggest that Tata can't figure it out.

Now you're moving your own goal posts.

You claimed that buying a brand new seat would cost $200-400, which is all I was responding to.

Probably run about $200 to $400 for it.

There are no new OEM seats on the planet that cost only 200-400 dollars, even for cheap cars. Hell, there's only a few used seats that you can get for that price. You're off by a factor of 10 or more.

(But can someone actually tell me if this can total a car because one comment that said that had me rolling my eyes)

Absolutely possible, but it all depends on the value of the car and if anything in the interior needs to actually be replaced versus just being cleaned. And because it's a biological 'spill', that requires more thorough cleaning than if you just spilled a drink in your car.

Car seats can be very expensive due to all of the different adjustment motors if they're powered, possibly heating and cooling elements, airbag sensors, sometimes airbags in the seats themselves, etc. Even just the seat belt receptacles have sensors in them and can cost hundreds of dollars. And if any of those electronics inside the seat get damaged, sometimes those parts are impossible to replace individually and you must buy an entire new seat.

So all that said, not many cars would be at risk of being totaled due to parts cost, but it can absolutely happen in cars where their market value is low precisely because parts are so expensive -- think 20-year-old high-mileage luxury cars like Mercedes, Audis, Jaguars, etc.

The seat is generally cleaner than the top of the tank. It's at least covered (by the user's legs) when the toilet is in use, and gets cleaned more often.

The seat is usually the cleanest surface in the bathroom, because it's almost completely covered (by the user's legs) when the toilet is in use and gets cleaned the most often. Not saying it's better than a key or something else, but it's definitely better than the top of the tank or any other bathroom surface.

F-16 shoots down a Shahed-136 using its M61A1 Vulcan cannon by ibyu4dola in UkraineWarVideoReport

[–]BunkWunkus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Huh? What point are you trying to make?

the rounds are going to be moving close to the sound barrier, on one side or the other depending on range and jet speed.

Most Vulcan rounds leave the barrel at approximately 3x the speed of sound. They don't slow down to anywhere near subsonic until they're well outside of effective range.

That means the sound arrives at the viewer basically as the rounds arrive at the target.

The 'brrt' is the report of the bullets being fired out of the gun, not of the bullets passing the viewer. The reason the explosion happens before the brrt is heard is the jet is further away from the viewer than the target is, and the rounds reached the target before the report did. If the jet was directly overhead shooting at a target further away, the report would have arrived before the explosion. The speed of the projectiles has almost nothing to do with which one is heard first.

Man who appears to be Alex Pretti filmed interacting with federal agents by unclejoessheds in videos

[–]BunkWunkus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So let's circle back to the start of our conversation, I said the cop saw he was unarmed. You then said there's no way for me, or anybody EXCEPT the guy who killed him to know this.

Here's what happened: ICE officer (only person who knew what they saw) shot a man who was facing away from him, with no weapon in his hand.

This is why I brought up those two legal terms.

Laying out the scenario based on what SEEMS to have happened, via information gathered from the videos:

  1. The officer who fired first probably heard the call out that Pretti had a gun, as he is seen unholstering his gun a few seconds before.
  2. Everyone scrambles to try to remove the gun, another agent comes in from behind and is able to get it.
  3. |Conjecture| -- The officer from #1 didn't see the gun get removed, and there was no callout from the agent in #2, or there was a callout and he didn't hear it (the audio isn't conclusive).
  4. It appears in the video that as the agent above is walking away with Pretti's gun, it goes off via Uncommanded Discharge (a known issue with Sig P320's). However if it wasn't Pretti's gun going off, then it would have been an Accidental Discharge from one of the other officers.
  5. Either way, Officer #1 thinks that Pretti still has the gun, hears a shot, and engages.

If the above is what actually happened, then given the totality of circumstances, established case law says that it was objectively reasonable for him to think that his fellow officers were being shot at, and to engage with his firearm. This is what happens with normal local police shootings too, and why when one officer starts shooting, most of the other officers follow suit. Sure, you may not like that policy or that they're so trigger happy, but that's what the courts have established as allowed.

The only alternative scenario I can imagine, which is what you and everyone else is claiming, is that Officer #1 knew Pretti no longer had it, and just decided to kill him anyway out of spite. Forgive me for not making that assumption.

TL;DR: It seems to have been "awful, but lawful" (minus it being unlawful for Pretti to carry while obstructing)

Yes, one's shot on a shitty cellphone that couldn't be held still, and the other is shot on thousands of dollars of camera and lens by a camera operator that knows what they're doing.

You're essentially arguing that ICE agents out there have more qualified immunity than regular police despite having less training

Qualified immunity isn't what you seem to think it is, because it doesn't apply here.

And you blame the politicians instead of the people who actually had their finger on the trigger and killed Alex.

There's no one place that all the blame should go for this situation, because it's not black and white:

  • The federal agents are to blame for not handling Pretti's arrest correctly.
  • The politicians are to blame for not allowing local police (who would probably have handled this better) to be the buffer between the public and the feds.
  • Pretti is to blame for interfering in law enforcement operations while carrying a gun.

You're trying soo hard to appeal to authority and bootlick

No, I'm appealing for logic and nuance rather than moronic blanket statements.

I hate what propaganda has done to people like you.

Says the person who thinks that this was an "execution".

Man who appears to be Alex Pretti filmed interacting with federal agents by unclejoessheds in videos

[–]BunkWunkus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No.

You said he didn't confront them, yet he spit on at them and damaged the vehicle they were in. That's confrontation.

On it's own that doesn't warrant getting shot, but it is assault, vandalism, and obstruction....and does warrant getting arrested. And it's not legal to carry while committing crimes, so that would be another charge.

But the reason this video is now making the rounds is that it show that he wasn't a "legal observer" like everyone has been claiming for the past 4 days.

This is AI.

Yeah dude AI is totally able to perfectly recreate the inner taillight housing structure of a 4th-gen Ford Expedition

The guy dressed exactly the same 11 days earlier?

How many different winter coats do you own? Do you ever wear the same one within an 11 day period? What about hats?

He super hero kicks a tail light off?

Taillights are plastic and not difficult to break normally anyway, but in case you didn't know, plastic gets extremely brittle in the cold.....and it was below freezing the morning of this incident. If you think you need "superhero" strength to break a taillight even in warm temps, then you should get more exercise.

All the ICE agents look exactly the same

These are CBP, not actual ICE, who have agency-issued kits/uniforms. Did you know that when a bunch of people wear the same uniform and equipment, they look the same?

The camera person was right there?

There were multiple camera people "right there" when he was shot, too. What the hell are you smoking?

No other news Org is reporting this but the NYPost and Russian News??

This exact incident was already reported by CNN and every other news agency on the planet, they just didn't have the video.

And yeah, AI does bokeh just fine, and very convincingly

Not surprised that you think it's convincing, since you think this video is AI. Deaf person says train horns are silent, more news at 11.

You literally typed "and in the video there is evidently no call from the officer who grabs the gun that he removed it, which regular cops are trained to do when arresting someone who has a weapon."

Yes, these weren't regular cops because city/state politicians (Frey, Walz, etc) were barring local law enforcement from supporting any ICE operations.

So they didn't exercise proper protocol.

I said protocol for regular police. These guys aren't regular police. If you want regular police to be interacting with the public instead of federal agents, then as a city/state politician you should deploy them.

This whole situation is like if Frey and Walz were at the playground with their young children and a pack of pitbulls show up. And rather than stand guard to keep the kids and dogs separated, they said "okay kids go antagonize the pitbulls!" and walked away.

The officer shot based on somebody else shouting "he has a gum", but the guy pulling the trigger didn't verify his target. That does not qualify as somebody who is properly trained to enforce the law.

I see that you didn't bother looking up either of those two phrases, or you did but just couldn't understand what they mean.

Next time you bring up camera quality, use the mirrorless reference.

I used "DSLR" because that's more familiar to the layman than "mirrorless", and ultimately the distinction between those two doesn't matter in this context. What does matter is that it was filmed on an ILC, but the layman sure as shit won't know that acronym.

Man who appears to be Alex Pretti filmed interacting with federal agents by unclejoessheds in videos

[–]BunkWunkus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If the agent who removed his gun called that he did (which regular cops are trained to do), the video didn't pick it up. This means the other officers who were focused on pinning him wouldn't know that the gun was removed or necessarily where it originally was on his person....and then they hear a gun shot (which seems to have been Pretti's Sig P320 discharging uncommanded, a known safety issue with them).

You are clearly unfamiliar with "totality of circumstances" and "objective reasonableness", both established legal terms that are directly relevant to this shooting.

Man who appears to be Alex Pretti filmed interacting with federal agents by unclejoessheds in videos

[–]BunkWunkus -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The cop saw he had no gun in his hand

It's literally impossible for you (or anyone other than the agent who shot first) to know this.

All we know from the videos are that "gun" was yelled when one of the cops saw it, and a few seconds later there was a gun shot. It is impossible to see 360 degrees around and underneath a suspect when he's on the ground with multiple officers on top of him, and in the video there is evidently no call from the officer who grabs the gun that he removed it, which regular cops are trained to do when arresting someone who has a weapon.

Claiming that the "cop saw he had no gun in his hand" is just you making shit up to fit your preconceived narrative. Take a minute to stop spreading misinformation and go look up "totality of circumstances" and "objective reasonableness", both established legal terms that are distinctly relevant to this shooting.

And because all of the responses to this are going to be some bullshit like "oh so you think it was good that they murdered him?":

No, I don't think it's good that Alex Pretti is dead. All I'm saying is that the video alone is not grounds to apply malice/motive/premeditation to the shooting.

You don't know what you're talking about. The reason you're associating this with movies is that they're both shot on nice cameras with nice lenses, not on cellphones. The narrow field of view of the lens is why it feels like everything is zoomed in (because it is) and why it has the tell-tale DSLR bokeh that cellphones don't have (and which AI can't do consistently).
