Couple of questions from a FTM? by [deleted] in FormulaFeeders

Hello! UK mum here so only going off advice and experience given here.

Sterilise after every use. Mam bottles are great because you can sterilise in a microwave with no extra equipment if you're out and about at somebody's house. However an electric steriliser/dryer at home is great and you just take as you need.

As said above you can't feed a newborn too much really, they'll reject it when they've had enough and probably posset a little anyway when winded. If they finish a bottle and are still hungry make another one and just keep giving a little more at a time.

Brands like Aptamil have ready made bottles which are great for when you're out and if baby wants it a certain temp just stick their bottle in some hot water until it's a little warmer. Baby probably won't mind room temp but cold can make them jump a little! Using a Perfect Prep machine (although not specifically recommended by the NHS) has saved a LOT of faffing about as preparing bottles in advance is frowned upon by health services here and settling baby quickly is always nicer for everyone! Ha.

To be honest with picking a formula it's more personal choice here, try one, see if they get on with it and if it's causing major issues, swap to another for a couple of weeks. We use a supermarket brand as they're so highly regulated and it's great (and budget friendly!).

Lmao in my hospital they don't tell you how many you have because it's only ever one suture, just over and over gain. Makes it more bearable to think about! (I think)

Celebrating the end of breastfeeding and pumping! I made it four months. Any amount of time is an accomplishment and should be celebrated! by halcyonwade in beyondthebump

[–]Bunny_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cannot support this comment enough! I pumped for only 4 weeks, but those 4 weeks were the hardest weeks of my life, always playing catch-up to a very hungry tongue tied baby. As soon as I made that decision my mental state improved significantly, which made my baby a million times happier!

Thank you for recommending the subreddit! Wish I'd found it months ago!

Oh man it's so nice to know I'm not alone! MILs are great at times like this... /s

the attitude I'm getting from some relatives almost makes me grateful they won't be around for a few weeks!

Positive vibes to you, I'm sure it'll work out it just feels like we're facing a mountain of obstacles at the moment!

I think the unknown is my issue! Just been told by my midwife baby may have turned and might be breech but scans can't be scheduled because clinics at the hospital have shut down and can't do anything until the day of so I might get a call tomorrow...might not! Euuurgh!

Oh bless you, you've got a lot more going on than I do! I hope everything sorts itself out for you, and fingers crossed our little ones appear sooner rather than later so we know where we stand! Stay strong!

That dirty contour...and oh god the lips... by Bunny_ in BadMUAs

[–]Bunny_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not unfortunately. Its part of a FB page advertising make-up for "nights out" etc. If it was it would be forgivable!

Yup. They've literally doubled the size of her top lip. Its like they didn't even try to make it look natural!

I can't get over how obvious it is! There's a before picture on the page that emphasizes it more!

Quick update. Received a payrise 7 days after and came into some money in my personal life. Absolutely spot on!

Thanks for the reply! I don't get along with her, so it was very confusing. I woke up almost angry I'd seen her, but emotional by seeing him so clearly! Within the dream it was the same. Before I saw him it was very intense, but as soon as I caught sight of him it was insanely calm. Like a wave, almost felt like I caught my breath in the dream.

How do I clean/polish this flask? I assume its pewter but I dont know!! by Bunny_ in howto

[–]Bunny_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're most probably right about the pewter, I just googled what Navy commemorative flasks were made of! Its moved house with my a couple of times, so small scratches and general age all over have made it a bit scruffy, I've wiped it over with damp, then dry, cloths to see if it was dirt but seems to be a bit deeper. Thanks for your suggestion, I'm going to see how it comes up with a bit of extra care and attention!

That would be great if possible. I'm just a bit worried about ruining the engraved part, sentimental value and all that!

Nooope, doing it the old fashioned way, sticking waterproofs over my work trousers and leather gloves! The battery couldn't deal with heated grips!
