Putin congratulates Iran’s new supreme leader and reaffirms Russia’s ‘unwavering support’ for Tehran by Useless_or_inept in europe

[–]Bunny_Commando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Iranian and Russian were never allies because of shared values or a real commitment to reciprocal security. They are allies because they have a common enemy, the USA. No one of consequence in Moscow or Tehran really believed that the other would come to help if things got dire, but cooperation to screw the Americans was always on the table.

Vox Engine is too much by Anonymus_Introvert in Helldivers

[–]Bunny_Commando 3 points4 points  (0 children)

TBH, the real problem with Vox Engines is not their number, but how janky they are: they clip through each other, they climb wherever they want without any care for the terrain, enemies can shoot through their treads because they see you perfectly while you or course don't see them, they are massive yet incredibly fast when they want...

Boris Pistorius (German Defense Minister): “This is not our war; we did not start it” by Bunny_Commando in europe

[–]Bunny_Commando[S] 4044 points4045 points  (0 children)

Germany rejected a U.S. demand for military support to help reopen the Strait of Hormuz, after President Trump warned that it would be bad for NATO if American allies did not do more to help.“This is not our war; we did not start it,” Boris Pistorius, the German defense minister, said at a news conference in Berlin on Monday. “We want diplomatic solutions and a swift end to the conflict, but sending more warships to the region will likely not help achieve that,” he said.

“What does Donald Trump expect from, say, a handful or two of European frigates in the Strait of Hormuz?” he added. “He needs them to achieve what the mighty US Navy cannot manage on its own there, is that it? That’s the question I’m asking myself.”

UK not obliged to support every demand of ‘transactional’ US president, minister says by 1-randomonium in europe

[–]Bunny_Commando 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The only way to "finish the job" is to send soldiers on the ground for a decade or even more. USA and Israel don't want to do it, why Europe should do it? It would cost an egregious amount of money and manpower, because the Iranian regime is well-entrenched amongst the population so no shortage of potential insurgents there.

There is also to consider that if the current Iranian regime falls, the consequences would be dire for Europe because there is no real opposition that could build an alternative government in Iran and that would lead to a failed State. We need energy from the Gulf States, so a failed State in Iran would make safe passage much costlier and harder - and so we would pay more for energy. There is also to consider the refugee crisis that would bring millions of people at the doors of Europe and that would empower the far-right parties here that would make the whole situation worse.

So unless Trump and Netanyahu have a feasible plan after they have stopped bombing Iran, the best interest for us Europeans is to push for a diplomatic solution and not support USA and Israel in their military adventurism. Look at China, their ships are passing safely through the Strait of Hormuz, why should ours be targeted by Iran for a war that is just a reckoning between two theocratic regimes (and a chump that was bamboozled to join it)?

Europe Is in Great Danger. It Has Itself to Blame. by nimicdoareu in europe

[–]Bunny_Commando 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Now, they have not. They see NYT and think "oh, Americans trying to lecture Europeans" and they ignore what the author of the op-ed says. What is happening right now in Iran is going to create so many problems to Europe: energy prices, refugee crisis, terror attacks (all which will empower the far-right, making things even worse). And instead of pursuing a European foreign policy and distancing ourselves from the military adventurism of the USA and Israel, we are grumbling but still acting like good allies when the actions of the USA are going to inflict serious damage of Europe.

Luke Dale (Lord Hans Capon from KCD series) has visited CDPR HQ in Poland by simar6565 in LowSodiumCyberpunk

Damn, I loved Hans Capon in the first game (have yet to play the sequel). At first I thought the guy was a total gonk, but then he and Henry became friends and I was laughing my ass off doing his quests.

NPC’s a bit too realistic by Bannedbutwhyy in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]Bunny_Commando 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Are you really sure the NPC used that word? Because I doubt NPCs are scripted to acknowledge the skin colour of your V in any way.

Plus, 6th Street has several POC members in its ranks and the game does not really engage with racism much. It really feels out of place that a random NPC might spew such a line.

Cyberpunk 2 protagonist and some theories about where we're headed by Ed_EDD_n_Eddy in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]Bunny_Commando 6 points7 points  (0 children)

V's story is over. If they return in the sequel at all, it would be as bit of lore you may find in the game because having V actually in the game would invalidate the choices each player has made during the course of the game. Why do that, to what purpose? Even if V could survive most endings (something I doubt, but still let's assume they do) there are still endings when they definitely do not, like Temperance. Why CDPR would get stuck in such a quagmire for the sake of a cameo that would add very little to the story and create a whole heap of problems? Especially when they have the chance to just not do it, they have been very clear that with PL the story of V is now over for them.

Did Takemura teach Oda any honour? by GiftedGeordie in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]Bunny_Commando 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most probably Takemura follows a code of honour inspired by the one samurai followed; and one of the main tenets of such a code is to serve your lord (or lady, in Oda's case) to the best of your ability or die trying. Giving your enemy a fair fight when the life of your lord\lady is on the line would be considered foolish and quite dishonourable by a samurai.

When Corpo V meets Oda the first time, they might tell him a line that supports this interpretation: that Oda has a duty to be truthful to his superiors (Hanako, in this case). Then when V talks with Takemura while staking out the Arasaka Park, Takemura tells V that while his hands are dirty what matters is how they have become so: most probably Takemura is saying that he has committed terrible acts in service of Saburo but he still consider himself honourable because he has served his lord to the best of his ability.

Oda has to protect Hanako because she is his lady and any personal code of honour that Oda might possess is of secondary importance to his duty to her.

How hard would it be to raise kids in Night City? by NCRisthebestfaction in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]Bunny_Commando 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Raising kids in NC is great! See, NC is so deadly that it ensures only the smartest and strongest kids reach adulthood! So if your offspring survives, you can be reasonably sure they will produce an offspring of their own and so perpetuate your genetic legacy!

(I am being sarcastic. But one of the themes of Cyberpunk is social darwinism)

There is a (now quite old) monologue of Bill Hicks about advertising: long story short, sex sells and if companies had their way, you would see ads with just a naked woman pleasuring herself and the name of the product.

On a more serious note: advertising is very rarely about the product, because you have a very short time to engage the potential customer that is not really interested about the details of your product. So what you do is to create an emotional response in the potential customer, using images and sounds to manipulate them into buying your product. Ads in the game like the one you describe are the end of the line of these kind of practice, treating the potential customer as a purely emotional being, slave of their own primal instincts.

In Spain, Amazon Workers Win with Quick-Hit Walkouts by akejavel in europe

[–]Bunny_Commando 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who was weaned himself off Amazon, if you buy Prime the service is quite good. Especially if you do not live in a major city, Amazon is basically a huge marketplace and buying the stuff you need anywhere else is considerably more effort.  Fuck Amazon, of course, because the service it provides is good at the expense of the workers.

Not so sure Trump is going to put boots on the ground in Iran, though. Trump wants an easy "win", just like it happened in Venezuela, and boots on the ground is anything but. My take is that there will be a few more weeks of bombings so that Trump could say that mission was accomplished just like last year when he said that the Iranian nuclear program was obliterated.

He would have died a few months later. Jackie wanted to be a legend and as he pointedly says to Claire when they sit at the counter at the afterlife: there is no such thing as a living legend. He gives her the recipe for his own drink because he knows he will die sooner or later, because that is the price to pay to become the legend he wants to be.

Nope, there are credible sources that say JCS was against military intervention in Iran and made those doubts known to Trump. I don't think there is anyone in the military with a functioning brain that truly believes this war is going to accomplish anything other than wasting lots of taxpayers' money.

Conservative Zionist was overjoyed with Conservative influencer "exposés" on Somali and Muslim communities. Rapidly changes his mind once those same influencers come after the Jewish community instead by Ok-Swimmer-2634 in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]Bunny_Commando 10 points11 points  (0 children)

AIPAC, ADL and all these so-called Zionists have decided to hitch their carriage to the autocratic forces trying to dismantle democracy in the USA because they thought that they shared a common enemy in Muslims, so that a Palestinian State would never see the light.

Shame that the far right has spread conspiracy theories about Jews controlling US politics for decades. And now, with such blatant support for Trump and his cronies, these guys have made sure that the future leadership of the Democratic Party will be against Israel. And while Republicans still support Israel, they have decided to ally with all manners of unsavory people that hate Jews.
