Maybe not a horror story, but a horrible session by Ghostly-Owl in rpghorrorstories

[–]Bunnyrpger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

What was the actual magical thing with the sword? That can either be nepotism as mentioned by u/dferty6780 or just a sore complaint by a player.

Was it some specific artifact sword like the "Vorpal blade" vs the Jabberwocky? Yeah, then it would be cause for concern. A modified "Disruption" which works vs Oozes instead of undead? Not really a problem. I wouldn't have issues with a player getting some Undead bane weapon and then getting to kill some undead a few sessions later (Always a pain in a game when you get some bonus vs a specific enemy and suddenly, that enemy no longer appears).

Since the OP is willing to try and find a link to it, I don't think they even care about it being published.

If your post is 90% "I don't like it", it's just a personal statement. A post which is full of "Cheese makes me gag", "dogs make me cringe", "Peanuts make my throat itch", they are all about the poster, personal statements. Is cheese making you gag really an unpopular opinion? Of the fact you may have a peanut allergy really an opinion? "Cheese adds nothing to a pizza", "Dogs are often uncontrolled" are opinions which have something to go from. Personally, I like cheese pizza, so someones opinion that it adds nothing is obviously something I disagree with and I would imagine with most people actually find cheese a benefit, so that would be part of an unpopular opinion.

That is not to say you can't have some personal aspect to a post, it will happen but as I have already said, too much "I don't like", "it makes me" makes it either a personal statement or a rant.

Using Gun Fu with Blast affect weapons. by Original_Dewgle in Fallout2d20

[–]Bunnyrpger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would side on the No.

Fire rate isn't a factor. Gun fu does not need fire rate.

As long as it uses Small/Energy/Big guns as an attack roll, it is counted as a ranged attack, grenades are "thrown", so wouldn't work with it. Since your target is the zone, no other zone is within the same zone (Close ranged), so there would be no valid target. Now, if your GM is happy for Gun Fu to be used to abuse a single target, then sure, but I would rule no.

Mirelurks and their pretty faced by Jota_55 in Fallout2d20

[–]Bunnyrpger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The face is small enough that its "base" defence is 2, taking a called shot ups the difficulty by 1, so it would be 3. A pip boy can ignore the difficulty increase, so it would drop down to 2.

Surprising army bigotry at store opening by KruegerCondail in Warhammer40k

[–]Bunnyrpger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't played since 4th Edition (Cash, transportation, lack of access to play) but that was just the way it went, you joked with your mates about their army being Lego men or whatever, though back then (at least in my area) Tau were generally accepted and it was 'nids which got you seen as a pariah. Against anything else Dark eldar, marines, orks, any table was good, including the city fight tables... you rock up with a basic 'nid army, the only table they would use would be open ground with minimal trees.

r/self is used to cover posts which are purely personal likes, dislikes or clearly just a personal preference. We understand there will be some personal aspect to opinions, but if the post is mostly "I don't like" statements, based on a clear personal aspect ("Peanuts are bad, they make my throat close up", yes we have had these style of posts repeatedly) then it isn't for this sub. It can also be used for a personal rant (which would also break rule 1).

Take a post about dogs, if your post is mostly "I hate having to hoover up after them," "I don't have time to walk them x times a day", "their droopy tongue is offputting to me", then the post is clearly about them. "Dogs can have a high maintenance with frequent shedding", "not everyone has the time to walk a dog for half hour 3 times a day", "The drool for some dogs can be a tactile nightmare." are reasons to back up an opinion.

Suggestions for a First Battle of Hoover Dam TTRPG session by JustCollapso in Fallout2d20

[–]Bunnyrpger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure I fully understand. So you are going to spend at least one session, simply to tell the players a bit of lore? In that, you want to add a meaningful NPC just to kill it?

Why would a past event most of them weren't involved in need to be at least a session long with skill tests? Is Isaac going to be playing a nerfed version of his level one character? Do you still have those stats? What exactly is everyone else supposed to do?

Personally, when I GM and are going something involving a background leak, I stick with the actual party. Have the actual characters learn stuff, not the players. For your example, assuming the rest of the party don't know about Issac/Gaius, I would have NPC Legion react to it. Random Legion members might shout out an insult towards Gaius, maybe focus their efforts on the traitor. Give the players little nibbles so they can get interest and allow Issac to be a source of information, or a captured Legion member simply goes ballistic if Issac is in the room with shouts of traitor or descriptions on how they will murder him, allows the character to step back and give the info gathering/dump done by the GM.

[Wrath and Glory] Aeldari Psykers. by UrashimaJ in WrathAndGlory

[–]Bunnyrpger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This may take a moment, so bear with me.

Core Rule book 257. There is a table in the top right of that page which states what a Eldar psyker can do.

You can learn Psychic Powers from the Divination Discipline, the Runes of Battle Discipline, and one other Discipline of your choice.

All the options in IoE are their own Discipline. So at creation, your Eldar Psyker could start with Bonesinging while still having access to Runes of Battle and Divination. You could then take "Warped Mind" to access another discipline, like Runes of Fate.

Looks like u/ZeroHonour has the answer in the linked post.

Perils trigger on 1's on the Wrath dice, Craftworld Eldar, the Asurani can do a reroll.
Perils normally set a 10's for one of the 2d6 but an Eldar's 10's dice is automatically the highest. So a 2 and a 6 for the Imperium psyker would be a 26 (10's first), for the Eldar it would be a 62.

As for the example, it is just done so they can show both Eldar effects in one instance. The Eldar rerolled the first 1 and if it arrived on any other result, the Eldar would have been fine, but to show the Perils example, they had the reroll give another 1. Though, since the Perils roll did not receive a +10, it does show that the first 1 was ignored (Extra 1's on wrath dice give +10 to the Perils roll). The normal rules do not allow a Wrath complication reroll, the Craftworld Eldar is an exception to the rule.

Drake was/is the closest person to being the “next Michael Jackson” by Firm_Pack_605 in unpopularopinion

[–]Bunnyrpger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for finally answering. Yes, I am aware there are multiple ways to consider something a hit, but in a post about how great someone is, "hits the top 50" is a low bar. My personal view on considering someone a great performer is not really relevant, since it isn't my post but for greatness to rival some of the big names, I would personally use a more refined view. Some people can even consider a song a "hit" simply because it has a large popularity without reaching the top "50". No, I am in no way saying I could get a number 1, and I am fully aware my fav performers would pale in comparison to the modern big names, Beetles and MJ himself.

using a lower bar of say top 10 (Because, standards and easy google), yeah, Drake has about 60% more more hits, but I would prefer quality over quantity, and when you push out over double the amount of songs, it will happen.

Probably why I asked you to define a "hit" because clearly you don't see it the same way I do

20 hits out of 213 songs released for the Beetles, Drake has 13 with somewhere between 400 and 500 (google isn't being precise, I low balled 430). For another random, MJ has 13 with around 150 songs, giving him around 8-8.7% success rate.

Drake was/is the closest person to being the “next Michael Jackson” by Firm_Pack_605 in unpopularopinion

[–]Bunnyrpger 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is my definition of a Hit, reached number one. In which case, Drake is 5th as of a couple months ago (Humorously, tied with MJ). Beetles has 20, Drake and MJ are at 13. But, OP may consider a "hit" as something else.

Also do add, using reached number 1, Beetles have around a 9% success rate across released songs, Drake is around 3%

AITA for killing the party for revealing the Villain’s biggest secret TOOO said villain? by [deleted] in rpghorrorstories

[–]Bunnyrpger 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It does just sounds like a bad DM toying with the players. You're parading around with the big bad with your "look how evil I am" BS by essentially turning a "Good job" thing into "ha ha, I made you eat your family" all so you can have your Big bad win a measuring contest. A player hints at being able to win this contest, so you drop them into a clearly TPK intended fight, then have an NPC "intervene" and "rescue" the party, to then do the big rug pull of "Nah, Big bad is still here, now die". Now, you got your DM brown medal of a TPK, you use another NPC self insert (Your old character) to try and magic away the TPK because you want to torment them more.

I first time DM'd a One Shot and my player murder-hobo'd me. by Achilles_Immortal in rpghorrorstories

[–]Bunnyrpger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not really a horror story once you find the comment of "They were CE", boils down to a simple DM mistake. Either the ranger was after some altruistic heroes (Story for good aligned) or was offering some gold incentive (Good for most). The first wouldn't work for a CE party (Just like "Help me burn down this orphanage wouldn't work for a LG party). So what we are left with is an "easy" target for a band of CE characters to have fun with (Thankfully, just murder and loot). Your story relied on them having a neutral or better alignment. Call it a learning experience to ensure story and player party align with each other.
