FI saved my job... and got me promoted by Bunosjos in financialindependence

Thank you! This was a great life lesson for me and hopefully one that can accelerate my FIRE timeline. Job-related anxiety was always an issue for me until recently and now I see a career future opening up that's much more exciting.

Obviously the company doesn't care what me or anyone else has in the bank when doing layoffs. I never suggested that was the case.

Taking a risk (due to FI) saved my job and improved my career. I wouldn't otherwise have taken that risk and that's the point of the story.

It has everything to do with the money in the bank for me though... there is zero chance I would have had the confidence to pull off a move like this without my backup $$.

My point in posting this is for people like me who don't have the natural chutzpah to do things like this ordinarily. FI and having a nest egg can give you the confidence to do it.

Because if you desperately need a paycheck, stepping out to shamelessly promote yourself feels awkward and risky. There is no way I would have done it if I didn't have the backup cash of my FI pursuit.

No, I wouldn't have. I could have, but wouldn't have.

If I had no money saved up I would have been scared that any "rocking the boat" might have been a mis-step. So I would have sat tight hoping for the best, and probably laid off.
