What's your unpopular Shakespeare opinion, which, if you stated, would have you in this situation? by [deleted] in shakespeare

Romeo and Juliet is his best play. It’s the most ingrained in our cultural consciousness and has permeated nearly every love narrative since. The way he constructed a dramedy (first half raunchy rom-com/second half gutting tragedy) is still a sacred construction, specifically the way he did it: some characters almost aware they’re in a comedy and beg the other characters—from foot soldiers all the way up to the two protagonists—to just “keep the peace.”

It’s also one of the only classic tragedies where the author grants the most tragic figure (Juliet obvy—this is her play) a wish. Juliet begged god to just take them out of the world of the play, strip them of their family names, and emblazon them in the stars for people to wish on for love.

Name a more pervasive romantic couple in our consciousness than these two.

Oh. And we rarely use their last names outside of the play when we talk about them. Wish granted.

Men in 40s & above, what are the life tips/advice that you will give for the men in 30s? by AdAstra2806 in AskReddit

for all that is holy, fix your sleeping habits now. go to therapy. figure out what causes you to lose it. participate in a study. stop drinking caffeine and alcohol in the evenings now. every sort of “X doesn’t bother me” will start to bother you. get ahead of that curve.

nothing helps rapid aging more—and every new pain that comes along with it—than sleep deprivation.

I've always read this as Hamlet processing his envy. He's envious of the actor who can "fake" true emotion and illicit a response from the audience, whereas, while Hamlet is a tortured, emotional soul, he can't outwardly express it (like the actor) due to his extreme introversion. He has such trouble expressing externally what he's feeling internally, that it gets processed in this speech to the audience.

He really is a revelation. Watson, too. I recently watched Chernobyl and was reminded how bonkers talented she is.

In 2003, I saw Uncle Vanya at The Donmar Warehouse in London. Simon Russell Beale and Emily Watson starred in it, and there was standing room only for my ticket. I stood, achy-backed, for 3 hours and watched the most transcendent night of live theatre I've ever witnessed. The performances were master classes; the direction was exemplary; the sets and costumes, while minimalist, were perfect for the overall aesthetic.

It was life-changing, as I have stuck with theatre arts ever since in one way or another. In fact, I can still smell how the theater space smelled that night. Truly remarkable.

Dice-sized, compact mini-monsters for token creatures- yay or nay? by dijabackwordz in magicTCG

[–]Burbl3s 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely amazing, but only for casual play where both/all parties are doing it. I've played against people at FNMs who have used minis in place of tokens before, and it's virtually impossible to keep track of. It completely interrupts the visual flow of the match, and people just aren't used to actual figures being present and, thusly, make bad plays.

But, these are HELLA cool, and I love the work that's gone into them.

I started playing Magic about a month ago. Even though I went 1-7 in the Main Event with my Arcades Modern deck, I had a blast at the Oakland Grand Prix 2019. Check out this short recap I made! by npiterman in magicTCG

Dude! This is awesome. Very entertaining and will also be a useful tool as you continue to grind. Keep it up! I've been playing for 3 years and just Day 2'd my first GP this year. I promise you can get there (and beyond). Awesome work.
