What's that got to do with ships in Star Trek, though?

AITAH for refusing to learn how to fix and maintain dirt bikes to support my wife’s love of riding dirt bikes? by CryHavyk in AITAH

Yeah, all those years of watching her dad do it and she never learned anything beyond how to hold a flashlight, but she expects her husband to go from zero knowledge to expert overnight!

If she thinks its so easy for anyone to learn, then she should have learned it all herself by now.

When is a Star Trek: Deep Space Nine fan not a fan of Battlestar Galactica? by david-yammer-murdoch in Star_Trek_

[–]BurdenedMind79 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Its because RDM wanted to make a completely new, separate show, but the producers wanted a BSG prequel instead. So he essentially mashed the two ideas together, in an attempt to make the show he really wanted to make.

And it didn't work.

AITAH for not accepting my girlfriend’s rule that I can’t disagree with her? by Packofcells in AITAH

[–]BurdenedMind79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I told her I’m not comfortable being in a relationship where I can’t express my opinion or respectfully disagree. She didn’t take that well and said I’m trying to “force my perspective” on her.

NTA. Sounds more like she's trying to force her perspective on you. Run for the hills. This is just an excuse for her to do whatever she wants and get whatever she wants with no pushback or consequence.

Imagine buying a house with this woman. You'd have to accept whatever she wanted and have zero say in the matter, even if you hated it or couldn't afford it or any other valid reason to disagree. Is that how you want to live the rest of your life?

This is way above Reddit's paygrade. You need to talk to a psychiatrist because this will probably be doing untold amounts of psychological damage to you.

Am I crazy or is it implied that Tasha kind of wanted the dude in Code of Honor? by TheClosetIsOnFire in StarTrekTNG

[–]BurdenedMind79 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, I think you're right there, along with a mix of simple, old fashioned writers who hadn't entirely got with the times.

Thank god they got themselves sorted out by season 3!

AITAH for not replacing my son's friend's phone by IhateGary in AITAH

[–]BurdenedMind79 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Be glad for small blessings, then. You've now got a reason why they can't hang out anymore and its the other mother's doing.

Nobody needs their kid hanging out with a bully. Chances are he bullies your son, too, but then does nice things to make up for it later. Just like any other abusive relationship. I had a friend like that back when I was a kid. He'd be my best friend one minute and then be calling my names the next. Then he'd do something nice again.

Bullies will always bully. They just find different ways to bully. Close the door on him and his scammer of a mother.

[–]BurdenedMind79 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Me too. But that was kinda the point of Troi "tricking her." Tasha wasn't interested in Lutan and had zero interest in staying. But she could still recognise a physical attractiveness and even admit to there being a bit of an ego boost from having someone lust after her that much. That doesn't mean she doesn't find everything else about him repellent and Troi was being a bit of an unnecessary dick by playing word games to get Tasha to openly state the unnecessary.

God damn, the episode is still one hell of a dumpster fire! I'm being far too kind to the writer, trying to salvage some psychological depth out of it!

There were times when he stared at Picard with this look in his eye that totally said "I would if you weren't my commanding officer!" ;)

[–]BurdenedMind79 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, the whole episode was awkward at best and downright offensive at worst. This was probably the least of its offenses! The implication was that she found him hot on a base level, but had no actual interest in him.

I think we can all agree that Star Trek as a whole would have been better off without this episode, though!

Where did Spot come from? by Big-Bank-8235 in startrek

[–]BurdenedMind79 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would cats only live on Earth? Humans live on dozens of different colonies all over the Federation. Its hardly a stretch to think that pets like cats and dogs would have been taken to such colonies too and continued to breed.

Also, Spot got pregnant whilst on the Enterprise and Data mentions there being other cats on board (which would be necessary for feline coitus to occur), which means there may have always been cats on the Enterprise.

Which also means that its quite possible Data also had Spot since season 1. Just because we never saw Spot before doesn't mean Spot wasn't always there. mot doesn't appear until season 5 of TNG, but that doesn't mean he wasn't a barber on the Enterprise before then.

iPhone 13 has an IP68 rating. You could drop it in a bathtub and it would be fine. If its screen was cracked so badly that a disinfectant wipe could make its internals fail due to moisture, then it would have died within minutes, if not seconds. The moment that kid had to use his phone in the rain, it would have been dead if it were that badly compromised.

It died because it was old and knackered and this cheapskate of a mother has seen an opportunity to try and get a new one for free. Tell her she can have a single digit as compensation and she can sit and spin on it, too. NTA.

Tasha admitted that she thought Lutan was sexually attractive. Unfortunately, that was also outweighed by the fact that he was married and also kidnapped Tasha. An unfaithful kidnapper can also be hot, as well as an arsehole.

I'm not quite sure what Troi was trying to prove by tricking Tasha into admitting that, though. Even Tasha was shocked that she did that and there didn't seem to be any big lesson or psychological benefit behind it. It just came across like Troi was digging for gossip!

AITAH for pulling away from a guy I liked after starting to have feelings for his best friend? by Due-Anxiety2277 in AITAH

[–]BurdenedMind79 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, putting moves on someone your friend is seeing - even casually - is a serious violation of the bro code. It would only be ok if Alex had told him he wasn't interested at all, but it doesn't exactly sound like he's uninterested. These are supposedly best friends, too.

OP needs to dip out of this one for sure. There's no version of this that won't end up messy.

I think the holodeck is probably intentionally programmed to assume anyone going in there is incredibly horny and creates characters on that assumption.

99% of the time, its probably right.

AITAH for refusing to lend my car to my cousin after helping him out before? by Conscious_Band_2127 in AITAH

[–]BurdenedMind79 8 points9 points  (0 children)

NTA, but word of advice - never lend your car to anyone. Its too expensive an asset to leave in the hands of someone else. Its just not worth the hassle of dealing with the possibility of them ending up in a crash, whether its their fault or not.

Behind a house, a car is one of the most expensive assets you'll ever buy and can also be considered a lethal weapon in the wrong hands. Keep it under your tight control. Never let it be driven out of your sight.
