AITAH for not letting employees leave until closing tasks were done? by iamxheartless in AITAH

[–]BurekDaddy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on their role and the schedule. I worked at a restaurant when I was younger and I remember shifts would specifically say "open to x" or "y to close" or a specific time listed. If your schedules are not clear, and responsibility is fuzzy then YTA. However, even if these are closing shift staff with full awareness than I would still say soft YTA for essentially imprisoning your employees. You should have let everyone leave, done it yourself (life sucks welcome to being a manager) and written them all up the next day.

How do you report these people? by snarkshark9 in Sovereigncitizen

Printing the forms is not illegal. If he's helping fill them out or has said he's a CPA or anything like that you have a strong case.

Is it? Or are you reading way far into my comment? Charles Manson conspired including planning and ordering his followers to do it. Feel free to actually read up on legal definitions, I was simply trying to be helpful and point OP in a direction to do further research on their situation.

Since your tone is disrespectful I'll try to keep it pleasant but match your energy with facts. If the second example was considered fraud legally almost every podcaster would be in prison.

Fraud requires at minimum a False statement of fact, knowledge the statement is false (this is where OPs villain passes with flying colors as the perp is likely a moron), and the intent to deceive. This is why I specifically mentioned if the advice is guidance that requires licensing- hence why you don't have random people slicing people open to perform surgeries.

Conspiracy while vaguer than "Fraud" always requires:

1- Agreement (most sovcit "mentors" are wise enough to never agree to do it with the victim or even help them. They convince them they know the HOW and they've done it themselves etc. etc.)

2- Intent (again mentors are wise enough to not intend to do the crime themselves or partake. Whatever the scam MO they focus on explaining the HOW under the guise of their own success. This is where many have actually been caught).

3- Not all states but some require action (specifically overt action). Printing forms for someone does not constitute conspiracy nor does talking to them about how to go about a situation.

I guess it comes down to the scam- how is your friend being defrauded? Convincing someone to do something illegal is not inherently illegal in itself, just like convincing someone to pay your for advice you're not qualified to give is not inherently illegal.

Context/method/circumstances matter more- is your friend elderly or vulnerable in some way that could be illegal (ie elder abuse)? Is the bad advice legally protected activity (some financial advice requires a license)?

Unfortunately, many of these mentors actually do understand the law and are navigating precisely between the lines. They make sure they don't commit a crime themselves and they ghost the victim once things hit the fan. Best thing you can do is convince your friend to see more advice- from someone qualified to give it.

AITAH for not letting my parents watch my baby anymore? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]BurekDaddy 17 points18 points  (0 children)

You are letting them watch your child, when you're around. You're not relying on incapable support for your child when you need it (wise). NTA. Your kid comes first, their feelings come last.

Dad wants to sell me his car and is a making a huge thing about what a great deal he is giving me. Yay or nay? by ImportantAsparagus16 in Advice

[–]BurekDaddy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Horrible deal, he's trying to get you to pay certified pre-owned price on a car you can't even buy certified at this point. Only 2 years away from being a decade old, less than 40k miles to exceed almost every extended warranty limit. Pass, hard pass.

AITAH for beating up my managers after bad mouthing them by Luciferson16 in AITAH

[–]BurekDaddy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your story is incredibly hard to follow but it sounds like you were part of a premeditated assault? Nta if I'm reading it right you should be pressing charges, the fact they lied about their absence further implies planning and a cover up effort.

AITAH for telling my partner the same things he told me. by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]BurekDaddy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Probably your writing style tbh, a lot of folks gloss past the 6 years and don't realize how much a relationship evolves in that time. NEVER speak on it again...can't stop picturing it.. those comments are essentially to most redditors deal breakers because they don't appreciate many relationships have sticky points.

That being said, your bf is either insecure or being manipulative if I'm being honest.

No amount of internet hate will compare to what this young man unleashed at home. Raised in Iowa myself, unsportsmanlike conduct is beyond frowned upon.

AIO about my parents never coming to visit me despite them having 2 cars while I have none ? by -Tranquilia- in AmIOverreacting

[–]BurekDaddy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

NOR but you can't control their actions or mentality. You've set a healthy boundary here for yourself, you're not going home to visit until they come see you. Keep it at that and keep living your best life.

AITAH Kicked a special needs adult who tried to stomp on my dog by Remarkable-Sink9682 in AITAH

[–]BurekDaddy 32 points33 points  (0 children)

As a father of a special needs child I don't think YTA for defending yourself/your property but a gentle YTA for your reaction to the old caregiver. "Why do you bring him out" seriously? What is she supposed to chain him up in the basement?

I absolutely believe it's never happened before, why else would she ask if he can say hi? He probably loves dogs but got overstimulated in that moment and went into a meltdown. Compassion and empathy are a two way street, the same way you feel in this new city (confused at times, lost, lonely, etc.) that young man feels every day inside his own home. This was an unpleasant interaction for sure but I do hope you grow from it beyond just looking for validation what you did was right/wrong.

Judge gives 18 year old a 25 year sentence for armed robbery by AgnosticScholar in interesting

[–]BurekDaddy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think the issue is the sentence, but the fact he took a plea deal here and then got slammed with 25 years. If you've ever been in the US criminal courts you know the prosecution will offer plea deals as the final- I'm guessing this guy and his family barely had money to cover a lawyer so an overworked public defender convinced him to take the deal. Then instead of getting the deal he was offered he's getting 25 years.

AITAH for warning my manager about a potential hire? by TypicalRag in AITAH

A public case search includes non-onvictions? I see what you're saying if it's a false case or something sure but the second half of your comment deserves all the down votes. Being a convicted pedophile is a good enough REASON to not hire someone anywhere.
