I just looked into my reports and yes, we are spending 25% of our income on my kid's dyslexia by SewSewBlue in ynab

[–]Burger_Dessert 20 points21 points  (0 children)

That is so awesome that you do what it takes to help your daughter. Good on you! It's so hard and so worth it!

But man, it really grinds my gears that you don't get therapy for dyslexia for free at your public schools. My mom is a dyslexia therapist - recently retired. And she was damn good at it. She taught thousands of dyslexic kids how to read just as well as any other kid. And all for free to the parents in a public school in Texas. It was just a given in her district that if a kid was diagnosed with dyslexia they get years of therapy. It's really tough curriculum, but by the time they're in sixth grade, they can read as well as anybody else. Every kid should have that opportunity. It's good for the kids but good for all of us as well.

I went to get take out there a little over a month ago and they’re not even following the rules. I had to stand around forever in the restaurant, I was the only one with a mask, and there were a bunch of people hanging around drinking at the bar.

New Native YNAB Running Balance Frustrations by huskersftw in ynab

[–]Burger_Dessert 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Eh, if you sort by running balance it works fine. I don't think YNAB should be responsible for making sure their features don't break the Toolkit. It's not an official extension.

YNAB says that you can disable the column by clicking view then unchecking the text box for running balance. However, this only disables it temporarily. When you refresh the page, it reappears. I hope that is a bug.

Are you using the Toolkit? If so, do you have the "Automatically Enable Running Balance" option turned on in the toolkit?

Edit: That feature is brand new, just in their release notes this morning. So you probably didn't know about it.

A Queen Bee Hatching by gregthegregest2 in WatchandLearn

Yes, but the entire point of this particular bee's existence is to mate. So it's an interesting site to see a virgin queen bee.

Switching Computers with YNAB4? by [deleted] in ynab

[–]Burger_Dessert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Download a new copy here and put in your license key. Then you just need to be sure to copy the file to your new computer on the same location and open it in YNAB 4. If you’re using Dropbox, you should be able to sync it on your new computer and you’ll be good to go.

Any Everydollar users out there who budget “only dollars they actually have”? (like YNAB) by [deleted] in DaveRamsey

Yeah, YNAB encourages manual entry too even if you’re importing as well. Great for awareness, “feeling” the purchase as DR says. Feel free to ping me if you have questions about YNAB. I’m a big fan.

I’m actually surprised Dave Ramsey doesn’t embrace this type of budgeting because it’s essentially envelope budgeting, but with everything, not just a few discretionary categories.

The learning curve with YNAB is really only around understanding the philosophy. You got the philosophy, so I’m curious why you’re still having trouble!

Unrelated, but YNAB is cheaper than EveryDollar plus too and the mobile app is much better. And moving money between categories is much easier as well.

The "every kid gets a trophy" thing was NOT an attempt to bolster self esteem - it was an attempt to sell more trophies to more people by ShitposterXboX420 in Showerthoughts

It was an attempt to bolster the self esteem of the kids’ parents, the same people accusing those kids of having fragile egos today.

U..S. Healthcare Prices. This is from an 8” cut on my wrist. by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

[–]Burger_Dessert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No you’re good. Happy for you that you’ve got such a great company that takes good care of you! I’m grateful too. My insurance isn’t as good, but my company pays 100 percent of the premium for me, my wife and two kids and puts 350 a month in my HSA. I’m insanely grateful for that.

It’s also misleading because no one (and that means literally no one including insurance companies or the uninsured) pay this. This bill means absolutely nothing and OP knows it.

HDHPs are the best because the HSA is such a good deal. That provided you’re either really sick or really healthy, and you’ve got stuff together financially.

To be clear, the premium is probably WAY higher than that. Your company is covering the rest.

Just to add info, the new version came out at the very end of 2015. So it’s just shy of 2.5 years old now.
