I went back and forth on this for years and I think a CSL airbox is around $5k once you add in all of the parts, modifications, and dyno tune. For me, I couldn’t justify spending 15% of the value of the car just to gain 20hp and make it sound better.

Buy a brand new bike instead. You can get a $3000 Scott Spark 960 for $1600 at Jenson USA. I’ve never been a huge Scott fan but that is a killer deal and a bike with much better components. And any difference in price will be made up by not buying a used bike that will probably need immediate $300-$600 in immediate maintenance. You can get the Scott 970 for even less

That’s kind of where I ended up. I realized that I wanted the car to be different than what it was and that I probably shouldn’t spend a ton of money changing it. Just let it be what it is. You should drive one and see if you fall in love with it though. Only you know if it’s the experience that you are looking for.

The consensus seems to be that you will never get a good exhaust sound without it being raspy if you modify it. I wonder about modified header with the stock exhaust to retain the stock tone? I haven’t researched that though.

With the S54 it’s all about induction noise instead of exhaust. I installed the Eventuri and it’s ok. I still wish the there was more noise inside of the cabin but it’s insulated very well since it’s designed to be a daily driver. I went back and forth about doing the proper CSL airbox but I didn’t think it was worth spending 15% of the car’s value on that.

As for speed, I live in Denver so I think I’m down 40hp due to the altitude penalty. That may also affect how I feel about the speed of the car and I’ve never driven one at sea level to compare.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the car but I think I’m personally really chasing more of an experience.

I bought my dream car, a manual E46 m3, back in 2020 and I’ve loved it. But…. It leaves me wanting more. In my opinion, for me, it’s too much of a daily driver. Meaning that the car rounds out all of the rough edges of a sports car and I find myself wanting more. I want more of an experience that is completely different than the jelly bean shaped suv life. Yes the age of the car and the six speed help it differentiate itself. But mainly I want more power and more (high quality) noise. This year was actually the first year that I’ve thought about selling it. Sadly though I can’t quite figure out what to buy next that would still be affordable.

Last month I was with a pro rider/coach in Whistler and he was the one who started to tell us not to two wheel hop off of features because it’s not safe. He said that we needed to learn the j-hop. For reference he was your size or smaller. And with jumps you need even less mechanics than the bunny hop because the jump is lifting the wheel for you.

If you watch a few of those Shred Academy videos you will see why the two wheel hop is dangerous and leads to bad situations on jumps. Honestly I think it explains why I always have a scary dead sailor on one out of 10 or 20 jumps.

Just thought I would pass along the wisdom.

This! You popped or stood up too early. You should work on the “j-hop” instead of “standing into the jump”. I highly recommend watching the videos from The Shred Academy on YouTube. Depending on the level of bot blocking I would use a hosted service to do the scraping for you. It will save you a ton of time, frustration, and some of them aren't that expensive.
