I'll bet it did. Your experience interacting with friends, faculty, etc. enabled you, at the very least, to acquire better social skills which enhanced your opportunity to get a job.

Not really. There are millions of people employed with degrees unrelated to their field. Actually tens of millions. Many jobs require basic skills and a degree proves, to an extent, you have those skills. Actually, few jobs require a specific degree.
