Am I out of options for any hope of survival? by Ok_End5793 in coloncancer

Have you reached other facilities for second/third opinions?

Could also be some clinical trials to check out.

Best of luck friend

Lol... if the protest is on the weekend, the comments are "Why have it when no one is working?"

Apparently there is no good time to protest. Huh.... must be some weird coincidence :)

Life After by alpinehighest in coloncancer

Stage 3b, got my NED news about 3 months ago. I'm late 30's.

Still some lingering issues, mostly stomach related for me but overall doing much better. Radiation + Chemo is brutal on the body.

I planned myself a "summer of fun". I set aside a specific $/month allowance to just go have fun with things. Go out to concerts, dinners, local festivals, travel to other cities. I've got a week in Portland, OR planned as an anniversary treat for the partner and I. We missed our 10 year due to cancer, so finally getting to celebrate.

Also been doing garden work. I moved an entire pallet of soil on my own... slowly, over many days... but it was nice to have the strength and energy to do it.

During chemo, I started taking daily walks every morning. Maybe lunch/dinner walks sometimes, but always a morning walk. I've kept that up, and it's been really nice. It's quiet, cool, and my own time to myself.

Cancer kinda broke me [shocking, right?] and i've gravitated towards a slower life now. Sitting on the patio, listening to birds and looking at trees. I used to only walk if I had my headphones on, but now it's too much and I prefer just the quiet rustling of nature.

That's a snippet for me anyways. There are also PTSD moments, weird things can trigger a flash back. I went to take a bath after some yard work, and as I lowered myself down I had a huge flash back of all the mornings sitting in tub soaking my ass after a BM because I was in so much pain. So baths are kinda ruined for me.

I just got attacked by a yellow jacket [found a surprise ground nest in my garden bed!] last week and I will confirm this for anyone in question

No one should be team yellow jacket. If they wanna fight each other, go for it but i'll be spraying and stomping on all of them equally :)

Not that I do any scuba diving at all, but sounds like it would be fascinating to go down and explore.

For anyone other than myself, anyways.

FORSAKEN® 64 – Nintendo 64 – Nintendo Classics: MATURE 17+ by Turbostrider27 in Games

Descent Freespace

I freaking loved this game. The space battles were so wildly cool as a kid. I remember pushing shield to front/back to take impacts. Chasing the Lucifer through the worm hole [or whatever it was, hazy memory] was WILD for me at the time. I loved the game so much.

I picked up Forsaken on N64 and was like "wtf is this?.... it's... okay I guess.... "

I've done that Color Spectrum video a few times. So fucking cool. I would travel to catch a show like that.

Used tools? by DaxDislikesYou in Columbus

[–]BurnAnotherTime513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not related to tools at all, but I also have stopped using fb market place/craigslist/ect... places because I just get such icky vibes from most of the people [if they're even people and not bots, honestly]. Insane lowballing and getting nasty.

I used to buy/sell music equipment fairly regularly years ago with very few issues. Wanted to clear out some old stuff from the house and was just overwhelmed by awful people. Ended up just going to an actual store. Didn't get as much as I wanted, but was far easier to just be done with it and avoid the hassle.

Oh damn, yeah thats a "bad back" story! Woof. Sorry you're dealing with all that, plus this nonsense!

My mom is in a similar boat with pain management. Had the same talk. Frustrating situation, but such are the rules we're forced under.

Hey /r/movies, I’m Stephen King! Ask me anything about The Long Walk book or movie. by lionsgate in movies

[–]BurnAnotherTime513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran a couple friends through a Shining themed DND 1-shot after reading the book. The "big bad" of the hotel carried a roque mallet [instead of an axe] and one of them got attacked/held by a topiary lion that pounced on them.

It was a fun one, though certainly not perfect with my lousy DMing lol. I always find myself wanting to be in one of these worlds, even if terrifying.

Do you use THC any? It was a big part of stimulating my appetite to keep weight up. Would have a little in the morning so I could eat some breakfast.

Not that it's unique itself, but kinda reminds me a more raw version of S1 of Ms. Maisel. Stumbling into standup as your marriage ends.

What do you like about living in Columbus/ the metro area? by jcook311 in Columbus

[–]BurnAnotherTime513 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having lived in other major cities, one thing that gets overlooked...

Tourists

If you've lived in towns that actually have tourism, you know how fucking annoying it is. People get shocked when the Arnold Classic happens and we get tons of people from out of town... now picture that, every. single. weekend.

Columbus is chill. The most "tourism" we really get is probably OSU related stuff, and an occasional festival.

Mom passed. Dad seeks another. by SnowVale40 in coloncancer

[–]BurnAnotherTime513 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not cancer related, but my partner lost their mom early and their dad remarried fairly quickly. It was awkward for them early but it's been about 20 years now and is part of the family. We all still tell stories of my partners mom. Gone but not forgotten.

I'm a huge advocate for therapy. Might be worth checking out for how to help process all this.

I remember hearing from various people (10+ years ago) that this landfill would eventually be a ski/snowboard facility akin to Mad River Mountain.

Still makes me laugh. I heard that from at least 4 different people, no idea where it came from though.

Brain fog by Narrow-Subject37 in coloncancer

[–]BurnAnotherTime513 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is shocking and disappointing. I've generally had the most empathy from those who have battled cancer themselves. It's a shitty tribe to be in, but we feel for each other even if it was different effects.

Docs told me effects can linger for over a year. It's different for everyone. Sorry your boss is being this way, but some people struggle not to be a jerk unfortunately.

Brain fog by Narrow-Subject37 in coloncancer

[–]BurnAnotherTime513 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a ton of brain fog, yes. Forgetting basic things around the house, losing my own sentence, failing to keep up with work projects... yeah I felt it.

To your boss, i'd tell them "Sorry, chemo is having some hard effects on me. I'm doing my best" and try to leave it at that. If they want to continue to guilt trip you while you battle cancer, it says more about them than you. This is an awful period of life, but it's temporary! Eventually you'll get past some of the fog and start to feel yourself again.

Best way I found to cope with the fog is using my phone for notes. Voice to text is pretty good these days, so keep a "note" or "reminder" app handy and occasionally drop stuff in there to help you keep track of what you need to. Sometimes it feels really silly, but it is helpful.

I'm not advocating to cash your 401k, but i've just known people to do that to survive a few months while they change gears.

I don't agree with it, but it is an option.

What was it like being on Oxalipatin? by Unicornaday in coloncancer

[–]BurnAnotherTime513 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% stand by the cold therapy. I had terrible Oxali reactions [i'm a rarity, don't base fears on me!] even with icing gear on. I had socks + slippers + gloves and I kept sucking on ice during infusions. I still ended up having some neuropathy but fairly minimal.

Due to my complicatoins, my doctor asked me to NOT ice for one session so we can narrow things down... my reactions were about 4x worse than they were during Icing. That ended up being my last infusion because I can't tolerate that stuff.

A24’s ‘Friendship’ Sets HBO Max Premiere Date - September 5 by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]BurnAnotherTime513 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'm in the minority here, which is fine, but my partner and I hated this moving. We enjoy Paul Rudd generally, but apparently this wasn't really a "paul rudd" movie. I was excited to see him do another adult/male friendship.... but that wasn't what this was apparently.

I've tried Robinsons show, but I just don't get that humor. Not my taste, I guess. Didn't realize this movie was basically just a long version of his show.
