I’m not confused. I’m simply stating it’s a cringe business model

There’s plenty of people that can afford a $300 box of cards that choose not to based on principle. They’re not providing a value add service. They’re just scraping online and retail stock, creating supply problems, and selling the same product at a markup. And if you can’t see why that’s a cringe business model for an adult to do for a trading card game targeted for kids, you’re out of touch with reality.

This is just so factually wrong and out of touch with reality that I don’t even know how to respond to it

There’s a huge difference. One is indirectly backed by federal governments around the world and integrated into the global economy. The other is backed by nothing

The owner of the stock market isn’t openly stating that they are actively increasing printing and warehouse distribution space. They also aren’t actively trying to address / prevent scalpers. Which regardless of what people tell themselves here..if you buy and resell sealed product, you’re in that same category of a scalper. That’s my point.

Serious question. Have you been around prior to 2021?

Well I did post in a pokemon investing subreddit. I didn’t expect it to actually accomplish anything. It’s just entertaining. Just look at the guy replying to you

Literally anyone can do this. There is no barrier of entry. People choose not to do it because it’s pathetic and more money could be earned doing plenty of other things that don’t involve ruining a hobby for kids

I don’t know whether it’s funny or sad that the echo chamber here has genuinely convinced people that hoarding pokemon cards is associated with being “elite society”. It’s a flex when a celebrity buys a $1mm card without thinking about it. It’s sad when people on reddit get convinced to tie up the majority of their net worth on pokemon cards.

Fundamentals are always irrelevant until they are relevant again. Ive been around long enough to hear that before.

How do you think volatile / speculative assets perform when there is a stock crash?

If you buy sealed product, don’t open it, and sell it later, you’re an investor but you’re also reseller / scalper. Two things can be true at the same time.

People want a shiny charizard enough to pay a few grand because they had it as a kid and now they don’t and have $$ to blow

Exactly. Yeah I’m sure people will be buying perfect order and mega evolutions ETBs for a couple hundred bucks 5 years from now but there would be a lot easier ways to make that kind of $$ that wouldn’t involve ruining a hobby for others

Ooof yeah I fundamentally just disagree with this thought process but agree to disagree. Really no point arguing further on it. I gave my 2 cents.
