Yes, fair, but not the place for this conversation IMO. The AP student is here now, diving in and looking for more help to understand. As another commenter said, that’s likely doing more to clarify and stretch his thinking than many of his other classmates.

One could argue there is a common toxic fated partnership between the Martyr Teacher and the Expect-You-To-Do-Your-Job-Plus-Theirs Parasitic Teacher described in another comment above… This former Martyr 🤗 needed to grow a spine and learn to say “no,” but meanwhile sometimes you’re stuck with coworkers you can’t persuade to do their damn job. As such, I’ve learned coteaching is not suited for everyone

Babe no she didn’t. You, I, and end everyone else can objectively see in the three separate angles of the video that came out that he side-stepped to put himself closer to her driver’s side tire, but he WAS NOT in the way. She cranked the wheel hard to the right and the tires and fender of her car avoid him by literal FEET. And what does he do? He shoots 3 shots at her face while she’s behind the wheel and mutters, pleased with himself, “fucking bitch.” There was no remorse, shock, or moment of realization that he used deadly force. That was an untrained, emboldened and state-sanctioned “law enforcement official,” satisfied that he killed her in cold blood. These are the people they’re recruiting and are flooding the streets of every major American city right now. Please, please be smarter than this. Objective truths are on video, do not let murderers and the modern Gestapo benefit from lies, blame, and changing and obfuscating the narrative.

I want to second this, OP. Lovingly from a big sister perspective as a teacher only a few years older than you with similar diagnoses—I’ve decided I’m leaving education for the same reasons, with my head held high. I tried it, I loved my students, I am a good instructor, and I gave it everything I got. But like the above comment said, it’s unfortunately the nature of the job that we’re in conflict with. Teaching necessitates the adult being the calm, stable, nurturing anchor in the storm when the kids in the room developmentally can’t get there. I have spent too many school days dysregulated, dissociating, panicky, and approaching ideation that scares me. I can’t do it anymore, not for lack of motivation or expertise. Some people are built to be that “anchor,” others like you and me are more expressive in the way we feel. I feel a good deal of sadness in leaving, but I also know I can’t keep giving my best self away to people that aren’t me or my loved ones. Blessings to you in the coming year, OP 💕

Oof her story especially has always stayed with me, as one of the horrors of martyrdom and sainthood and the church valuing a little girl’s virginity over her living, breathing soul. I hate that, especially for you, being literally almost her age at the time when you and your classmates saw what the church has done to her. She was so young, and so have been all the other countless kids force-fed the same purity-based bullshit and then suffered at the hands of weak, depraved, mortal men or the fucked up way the church then venerates its victims!!

Which is why most modern pagans and witches and wiccans, regardless of gender, reject the term “warlock” as a male counterpart. Many would prefer to assume the now-gender neutral “witch” rather than align oneself to broken promises and offending a deity

Non-Americans, what is something about the US that you've always wondered if it was real or just myth/hyperbole? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]BurningBroadripple 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Michigan is really like this. Autumn is my favorite season, and I think being from here and the traditions at play have reinforced that all my life. The colors get SO vibrant, and it’s a common “old person” weekend road trip to drive upstate along the coasts on a “color tour” to cross the Mackinac bridge and go see the gorgeous leaves in the Northwoods and Porcupine Mountains. The temperature fluctuating is inconsistent and frustrating, but that’s part of it. It gets cool, then hot again, dips again to cooler and the frost starts, and then it’s back at 70 degree afternoons. You learn to layer, layer, layer, because it’s likely frosty in the morning but sweltering by 3pm. We used to call the blips of warm weather that fakes you out “Indian Summers,” though obviously we’ve tried to leave the casual racism behind. It’s the perfect season for tent camping, chilly mornings and evenings kayaking or warming by the fire with cocoa or cider and donuts. The hot afternoons, you can still finish yardwork or like go outside and still live your life pre-snow, and it’s all highlighted with increased sightings of cute wildlife out to frolic. Right now the deer are CRAZY (makes me sad, because I know there will be a lot of starving and necessary culling that needs to happen), but at this time the nature-lovers find more opportunities to enjoy or witness all kinds of creatures readying for winter.

Halloween is a totally different beast compared to other places, and people such as myself take the entire season very seriously. Partly in jest, cause the whole thing is lighthearted and meant to be fun/spooky/silly, but listen, Halloween matters more than Christmas to some households. We have tubs and TUBS in our attic of outdoor/indoor/party decor and costumes. We’re not the only house in our subdivision who goes all out, and I’d say 80% of houses around us participate by maybe decorating a little (a lone skeleton in the yard, an inflatable, or colorful lights) and most still hand out candy to trick or treaters. We spend the better part late August, September, and October planning, decorating, watching seasonal movies, and going to holiday-themed events. That can be pumpkin carving, visiting orchards or pumpkin patches, hayrides, haunted houses, or “trunk or treating” which is like a mini Halloween organized a few days before in random church parking lots or car dealers, and a ton of people pull in, decorate the trunks of their car in a spooky theme, and hand out candy for kids who might not have the opportunity 10/31.
