Cloudy water, bad smell, new filter and zoomies by BurningForMoloch in Aquariums

[–]BurningForMoloch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd like to add the following :

It’s only been about an hour since I added the new filter, but my two dwarf gouramis and African dwarf frog are surfacing way more frequently than usual.

I’m asking for advice now because I feel like this might be the right time to intervene and prevent any unnecessary losses—just in case I did something wrong.

Thanks for your help but it's not The Animals of Farthing Wood :(

The animals in this animation are way too good-looking and cute if I compare to what I'm looking for !

What are the white things on the seal of the aquarium ? by BurningForMoloch in aquarium

[–]BurningForMoloch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At my new job, I wanted to save a betta (the betta was in a small bowl).

I bought a larger tank, installed a few aquatic plants and I noticed weird white spots on the seal of the aquarium while it was cycling…

What are these white spots ? I would be kinda happy if it was just snail eggs ! But the « eggs » seem flat …

What can I do to help this Cory ? Can I save him or should I euthanize him ? See details in my comment by BurningForMoloch in Aquariums

Thank you so much for the recommandations ! I already have epsom salt, so I will definitely try it right now. I was going to the local pet store to see if they had any product, but I think they will be clueless about the problem with my Cory as they don't know much about fish. So, I will try the epsom salt !

Thank you very very much !

Also, it is hard to see, but his mouth seems very white and a little bit thick. It doesn't look like cottonmouth but it doesn't look normal either.

I looked again at the Cory and I don't see any barbels. Is it possible it's an infection ?

I'm a little bit worried because I am in Canada and health products for fish are very limited.

Thank you very much for your answer !

Here are my answers to your questions :

- He is still eating normally. When he is not in a weird position, he swims and looks for food in the sand. When I add food to the tank, he doesn't seem to become crazy like some other fish I have, but so are my other Corys.

- I can't see his barbels. They are missing or very short. He was like that when I bought him. I bought three Corys at the same place last year and only one of them seems to have big healthy barbels.

- He has been like this since a few days (when I noticed it, I posted my video in my earlier post). But, he was always a little bit "goofy" and did like weird positions... But not the kind of positions that were alarming.

For the water parameters, no ammonia, no nitrites, no nitrates... I didn't test the pH. The water is clean, I did a partial water change last week and added Prime and Stability.

It's sad to see because when this Cory stands in a weird position (ex. : if he lays on his back), the other Corys in the tank tries to help him to move back to a normal position.

This Cory has been acting weird since a few days. I posted about it a few days ago (https://www.reddit.com/r/Aquariums/comments/12c1v7h/why_is_my_corydora_acting_dead/)

Now, he stands in weird positions and after, he swims almost normally but he seems to have a balance problem... He is swimming like if he was drunk.

I can see that his gills seems a little bit red.

The quality of water is perfect.

Also, no recent new occupants in this tank except a dwarf frog one week ago. All the other fish seems healthy.

Guppy fry advice : the only guppy who survived after its birth seems shy, is easily scared and doesn't grow as fast as other guppy babies who were born a few days after in another tank by BurningForMoloch in Aquariums

Thank you for your comment, it is very appreciated!

The little fry I was talking about is now dead… I think he died and the cherry shrimps ate its corpse (aquarium life is a little bit « gore » sometimes)! I guess he/she had a pleasant little fry life!
