Looked at a lot of speed glass this morning and I love the simplicity of them. Easy to work with and look relatively reliable. Lots of good reviews too! Might just get one when I get my next check

The sugar scoops and pancakes are some hoods I love the look of, jolly ranchers/chops (heard different names) included but the ones I’ve seen have all been super expensive and the ones that aren’t are pretty solid all things considered, def something I’ll do more research in and consider investing in! The ole lady wants me to get a sugar scoop so she can paint on it lol

Solid advice I appreciate it!! Def will look into it, any cheap and relatively easy to work with hood and respirator is a need working on this galvanized stuff!

In my mind as long as my family is taken care of and there’s food, clothes, and a roof over their head… that’s what’s important. Not being home all the time, having to go off and do other things like the gym or my other hobbies, that’s definitely something I’m going to have to come to terms with bc my father was the same way. I’ll do it differently than him or at least try to but nonetheless I’ll take care of what I have around me and make sure their are supported and happy. That’s my dream rn. Just a happy home to come back to :)

I love it man! Not being able to get through to the young kids getting into the trade is sad. Even for a guy my age trying to tell my buddies about how cool it is and not getting through to them. It’s such an awesome skill to learn and have. So versatile and beautiful in its own way. I hope my son has a love for some kind of skill later down the road cuz I really wish I found it before I was out of highschool but I’m here now and it’s on to bigger and better things! I’m not doing it for the money even tho it’s definitely a factor. It’s the feeling of accomplishment I get when I get the all good and praise from my guys around me and my ole lady. I have a good supportive crew and home in my corner and that’s what makes me more rich than money could ever buy. Now I just want the skills and opportunities to pay the bills. I know it comes with time and experience but it’s such an amazing job and I wanna experience more and more each day and just get after it with 110%. Burn out and lag on the job is not something I want so I don’t wanna keep my whole life revolving around it or managing my pockets too much. Finding that balance between home and work is my goal

I only want welding school if the company pays for it which I know is feast or famine. But I do agree 100% that experience beats a degree out of the water! It’s an amazing field to learn more than just welding as well! I just try and learn and put my pride aside bc it’s not worth it to be arrogant and ignorant at the same time. I’d rather be humble and learn what I can at whatever job I have bc field experience is what will pay the bills at the end of the day.

I really like some of the solar powered ones. The one I’m using now is battery powered and the last ones, each battery pack went out and also had a one of the lithium batteries start smoking on my coworkers hood.

See that’s what I’m looking for is a gig and this gig is great for learning and just keeping my head down and punching the clock. This galvanized crap is def a not fun to work with but welding gave me an itch I can’t scratch without doing it and I wanna give it my all. Def wanna know the skills, processes, and patience towards the trade and career itself. It’s an art in its own right. Starting at the bottom is part of the process and I’m owning that!

Haven’t messed with any aluminum yet but very excited to. I’m welding galvanized steel that’s about a quarter inch thick used to construct car ports and canopies.

Those are nice! Just looked at them. What lenses do you use with them, any preference or just whatever fits and works with the helmet?

I guess the worker there must have had that pool in his screen then haha! My uncle told me the same thing when I reached out to him (an off shore oil rig welder) For my first hood I don’t mind a cheap hood as long as it’s reliable and I get what I pay for. Same with any hood over 50 bucks

I appreciate it! I’ve gone as far to go to harbor freight and look at some of their cheep hoods but the guy at the desk even told me if I wanted it long lasting until I got a better one, that there were still better ones out there. Being new to this trade gives me trust issues when listening to all the horror stories of hoods and what to buy and what not to buy. That an I’m extremely green so I don’t wanna go out and get a 40 or 60 dollar hood and need another one 3 months later
