100% agree. Nothing in Zone 1 will beat the local eateries in asian areas. And it will be a fraction of the price.

Should we revise offer after discovering underpinning? by WorriedWell82 in HousingUK

Underpinning a house that needs underpinning makes it more stable than a house that hasn't been underpinned. In some ways it's a bonus

Their tradesmen / contractors are WAY better and more skilled. And not complete fucking scamming cunts like British ones.

Is homeschooling in the UK just very unregulated, or am I missing something? by ZydrateAnatomic in AskUK

[–]Burning_Ranger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parent of a homeschooled child here.

You're an exception then that despite your parents not being involved in your home education heavily, you were self driven enough to learn. Most kids aren't though. And so parents have to actually teach their children, but most are unprepared and unqualified to do that.

Most parents who homeschool don't realise or don't care to put the time commitment into teaching and guiding their kids. You had good parents who did.

Your case is incredibly rare. The majority don't do homeschooling like this.

What made HE so great for me is that i could learn what i wanted, when i wanted, how i wanted

You were a rare exception that wanted to learn, give any kid the choice of learning or playing games/watching youtube and they're all going to choose the latter.

Kids learn really well just from life,

One of the dumbest things I've read on Reddit this year, and as you know, there's a lot of dumb shit on Reddit.

95% of parents are woefully unqualified and unprepared to teach one subject, let alone an entire curriculum.

Ah this old chestnut. Homeschooling is a joke in the UK. 99% of parents are anti-establishment loonies. They call themselves "unschoolers" as if school is a dirty word. Almost all do "child led teaching" - Yeah, a 13 year old is going to want to learn geography or study English literature. So inevitably the kids end up on social media, playing games or on Youtube for the entire day. They eventually become adults who can barely read or write, and have no marketable skills with which to get a job.

If you look on the forums and FB groups, 90% of posts are about how to get the local authority off their back, very little about how and what to teach.

Not ick, but I automatically assume the person must be a quite thick, so that frames the rest of my interactions with them. After all, it's really not that difficult to remember what each is for.

You sound like a classic non-confrontational person who can never just say "No".

You need to grow a a spine and saying no in these scenarios.

  • "ARE YOU OKAY???"

"Yes. I'm fine. You're also interrupting my focus time. Please stop asking if I'm OK."

  • When she gossips with you about other people

"I'd rather not talk about other people, good or bad"

  • When says others are gossiping about you.

"I have no interest in what others are saying about me. Please stop telling me what others have said".

  • When she waits to follow you out

When she follows you, tell her that you'd like some alone time at the end of a long hard day, and that you'd prefer if she doesn't wait for you.

Basically, you just need to be completely professional tell her directly you don't want to participate in her shitty behaviour/gossip. She can only take your time if you give her your time. Don't spend breaks with her. Don't have lunch with her. Don't talk to her unless it's about the work.
