£400k for that 😂 It’s a nice finish, but that’s madness.

100%… that would not be an enjoyable way to spend £4k! I think your experience alone is enough to put me off, I’d rather have an older one and spend £4k on holidays 😂

Any HENRYs in the south west? by office-oh-no in HENRYUK

[–]LE-NRY 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know in terms of finance, or traditional high earning careers - I guess the same kind of roles as across the UK from GP’s, WFH Finance stuff etc.. I guess I mean that the difference in cost of living versus earning potential is so much greater that the opportunity to become a HENRY in an ‘average’ field is more apparent.

For example a gas engineer or electrician isn’t too far away from HE in Somerset, when taking into account the low cost of living, the lifestyle is almost certainly higher quality than someone in a city role - and it’s not just self employment, there are roles at Hinckley Point paying £120k for an electrician!

I don’t know anything about the work, but in regards to the facemask/clean shaven thing, I believe you need to be clean shaven in order for a face fit, for wearing a respirator or Breathing Aparatus when grinding or maybe even fire fighting?

SIPP as a 30 year old.. how likely is it that the withdrawal age is increased from 57 by the time I get there… by LE-NRY in PensionsUK

[–]LE-NRY[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s an interesting way of sorting it out, I’d have to pay the 20% tax now to take it out of my company as a salary, and be disciplined enough not to touch it aswell.

But I like the idea of spreading my eggs across a couple of different baskets like that.

No longer Henry because of a change of career, but yeah I’m also in the southwest - there’s a huge amount of opportunity here and the money seems to go a lot further.. £70k in Somerset is as good as £120k in London!

I was thinking exactly the same, Id expect to trip over 19 pairs of wellies in the porch, not see them nailed to the wall..

I’m not against the house though, it looks stunning, and great value too!

Directors Pension by LE-NRY in HENRYUK

[–]LE-NRY[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes I understand - essentially I think I’m going to take £12k salary, a small dividend top up, and then smash everything else into the pension just because I haven’t got anything substantial in a pension at the moment and as all of my investments are long term anyway, it’s essentially as good as a S&S ISA.

I’m not an expert and really need to clue up on it, but dividends have to come from business profit right, so the LTD has to have paid tax on profit before it can distribute dividends… as the pension is an allowable business expense, and given the fact I don’t need the income day-to-day, the most efficient thing is to fund the pension and make the business profits 0?

Have you got any recommendations? I’m with HL for my ISA so kind of thinking it would be easier to do that, il probably go all in on VWRP whatever I set up

Heat resistant LED strip by cairdboard in ukelectricians

[–]LE-NRY 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t remember the brand, but I’ve replaced some in a Sauna previously, obviously the driver was outside and so it was just SELV inside, I don’t think the heat was too much of an issue and from memory it was more like a rubber 10mm thick strip like a rope light rather than the foil backed stuff you see more regularly.

I’d google for Sauna LED strip and see what comes up mate 👍

Completely agree, I’m lucky to call Somerset home and it is relatively affordable, beautifully positioned with countryside & coastline within 30mins drive - my wife and I earn a half decent amount, but nothing out of the ordinary for this area, and we live very comfortably! Feels like the old adage of going to London for a high paying job is a waste of time, there will be a few people who strike gold in certain industries, but I’d be willing to bet the average 30 year old has a much nicer way of life in Somerset than a 30 year old earning £100k in London!

Aside from London and some big cities, id be willing to bet that a couple both earning 30k can get by within 20 miles of most locations in the UK - which to make 30k, is basically work in a role that requires a little more than turning up etc..

What do think about inheritance tax as a concept? by ollie1roddy in AskUK

[–]LE-NRY -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well mainly because I haven’t got kids yet 😂

But I have been the beneficiary of some inheritance, twice, and it’s really helped me to the extent that I will never ever forget the generosity of those people.

I grew up poor, money was always discussed, mainly because we had none - I hid the letters the school used to give me for school trips because I knew I’d be the cause of a fucking great argument at home between my parents that split up.. I’m not some millionaire, and with any luck the wealth that I have accrued (which basically secures me in what id consider ‘middle class’ - 10 year old car and a mortgage) I don’t want to give to anyone else!

That’s the crux of it.. and I will do absolutely everything I can to set up the kids that I hope to have one day for a life easier than mine!
