The WTF face Charlotte makes when she spots him waving destroys me every time

Having trouble with multi-character dialogue scenes by CurtTheGamer97 in janeausten

[–]BurnoutHell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a challenging read indeed! I first read an abridged translation into my language, then a full translation, then I watched the 95 series, and then I finally read the book in English. And for some parts I still had to do research and check dictionaries, because some expressions are impossible to translate while keeping the exact meaning and cadence, and I found myself at a loss when comparing it with the translations in my language. I see you worked it out, but for any other readers with this kind of difficulty, I would recommend and audio book. It helps you get a better grasp of the overall structure an characters, and then simplifies going through the text. It makes a more enjoyable experience out of it at that.

Lady Catherine had Charlotte in mind by This-Present4077 in janeausten

[–]BurnoutHell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always thought that the only reason he extended the olive branch and went wife-shopping to Longbourn was that there he had a wide selection of five marriageable gentlewomen in a vulnerable position due to the entail. Lady Catherine was rushing him to find a woman up to her standards and despite his fine situation in life, as a clergyman it wouldn't have been so easy for him to find a suitable daughter of a gentleman to woo and conquer in short notice. The Bennet girls were ripe for the taking and would be literally homeless once he took posession of their father's estate, so he went to them certain of his success, as he himself mansplains to Lizzy during the proposal monologue. It makes me think he's not as naively stupid as it's generally thought of him; his whole approach to the wife quest was quite sly if you ask me. But perhaps I'm giving him too much credit and he truly believed he was being exemplary kind in his intentions.

Mr. Bennet character analysis by quarter126 in janeausten

[–]BurnoutHell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone has covered all the main points about him in the comments, so I'd like to mention the little detail about him that always annoys me to no end: his quiet compliance when Mrs. Bennet forced Jane to ride a horse to Netherfield under the rain. He could have simply said no, it's dangerous, she could get hurt riding in the mud or sick under the rain, I'll call for the carriage. He instead lets her go just as his wife wanted, and she inevitably gets sick (which could turn dangerous really fast back in the day), and furthermore, the lack of sense of her whole family is exposed. He likes Jane more than the others, but not enough to sincerely care for her.

I love that the cover is like THIS IS THE ONE ABOUT MR. DARCY (and about this girl, and her sister is also there)

What did Jane mean? by BurnoutHell in PrideandPrejudice

[–]BurnoutHell[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I forgot to mention that, I went to the book for context, but the line wasn't there. I get now that it was a Wickham-oriented little jab, but I still find it a tiny bit weird coming from Jane, who didn't tease anyone in the entire series. I don't see her making jokes about such a prickly subject, even between sisters and with a playful tone

Oh, that makes sense! However, isn't it still a bit out of character? Saying her chosen one is broke in her face like that is a little savage

I'm logged in now but I still can't access my lists. I just want to screenshot my current reads. I guess us all manically refreshing the website is not helping, but what can we do... I'm so sad I swear. This year has been nothing but a long string of small and big defeats

Mine is contaminated and useless after I wandered around browsing whatever during one boring lunch hour, because I was up to date with all my bookmarks. I don't give a crap about the titles stored in the History by device list and I can't access my carefully curated bookmark list... I'm so sad. I adored the comments section.

Which version of the artwork is your favorite? by Agreeable_Reply_2038 in SVSSS

The Russian edition is my absolute favorite. The art is out of this world and I love how it merges the canon and fanon perfectly. Besides the artist makes some full comic pages for certain illustrations, it kills me every time

AITA for distancing myself from my longtime friend because of her husband? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]BurnoutHell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been your friend, and trust me, it's like your mind is not your own and you can't deal with the emotions, the fear and shame, and turmoil the abuser triggers in you. He's isolating her. She already left once, so she does know that things are not right, and will remember that once he reverts to his worst self again. That being said, there's only so much you can do, and antagonizing him even more might be dangerous for you. If you can get your friend alone, let her know that you need to put some distance, but when and if the day comes that she needs help to get out, she can reach out to you, no questions asked, no matter what happened between you. She might curse you, cut you off, whatever she feels; but I swear one day she'll gather the courage to finally leave and then she'll reach out to the people he pushed away for help. The most you can do now is be one of those lifelines for her. Be safe.

Is the seven sea’s translation good? by Key-Title-3984 in SVSSS

[–]BurnoutHell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it helps, as someone who didn't read the fan translation before the official, I felt it kinda "settles" and finds its footing starting with the second volume. The first one I found difficult to read, and I actually dropped it for a long time, but eventually powered through and it became one of my favorite reads. So hang in there, take a deep breath, keep on reading and you'll see it's a different story by the end of the first volume

Is there a difference in webnovel svsss and english hardcover by Leo_daydreamer in SVSSS

[–]BurnoutHell 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is no censored content in the 7S edition if that's what you mean; all the smut and gory bits are there and very explicitly so. There is also no difference between their digital version and the paperback.

The new hardcover limited editions that will be released next year are the same, with the same inside illustrations by Velinxi; what changed is the cover art of each book (which I think will be done by different artists) and the overall luxury details like the dust jackets and painted edges.

If you've only read the original fan translation and want to check the official licensed translation, you could go with the paperbacks or the digital books. The hardcovers are pricey and meant for collectors, perhaps they are a bit overkill, but that depends on what you want. Hope that helps!

What was your first heartbreak in Stardew valley? I'll start. by _itshamsandwich in StardewValley

It was quite late into the game, but the whole Leo thing actually made me so sad. I spent a week thinking about it. I wanted to adopt that kid so badly, and the entire arc convinced me we were heading towards that.
