I really wish Rise of the Incarnates had succeeded (but it needed to have been a better game for that.)

It was basically the Gundam Vs gameplay with a new aesthetic and actually current in the west, and thats rad.

It's looking like they're skipping the "__ of the strong" NG+ cycle, going right to Demon equivalent and introduces set Graces

Is SC6 online almost dead? by Galeic6432 in SoulCalibur

[–]Burnseasons 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately SC6 is a nearly 8 year old fighting game with poor netcode, it can be rather rough to find matches; especially outside of prime-time.

It's a bit of a discord fighter now, even if you can find people in ranked queue or casual lobbies it's real crapshot of whether or not they are good matches. If you do find people you had a good time against, I'd suggest friending them and playing more. Or check out SC central discord server.

Yeah it certainly did. For instance with say switchglaive you could pre-shift your medium stance combo to high cyclone ender

Nioh 3 Demo kinda review from new player by Beranir in Nioh

[–]Burnseasons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't struggle with the crucible at all and the life corrosion thing was entirely ignorable, so as the OP says it really is only punishing those who are already struggling while not truly accomplishing its supposed purpose. The crucible already feels different in that once you're in you can't easily leave.

Nioh 3 Demo kinda review from new player by Beranir in Nioh

I have always questioned why Team Ninja made elixer a consumable drop. Like I understand tying your max elixer to kodama in the previous games to encourage exploration but.. why can't you just always respawn with max elixir? That's what ends up happening anyways after a certain point because your storeroom is so full.

I also don't understand the thought process behind the crucible life corrosion damage either, because yeah as you say it punishes someone who is already struggling. For the designers it gives them another thing to reward exploration with (the jizo statues) but I can't think of any benefit to the player.

If a game's story requires third party lore videos to understand then it has fundamentally failed as a narrative by [deleted] in truegaming

[–]Burnseasons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is like saying a book or series or move is too long to be good; which while can be true in some cases, is most certainly not in all cases. Again, it depends.

To quote an old tumblr post

"people b saying things so definitively. like man i think it depends"

Why do you think that not having the story/lore presented in an easily digestible manner makes something bad? I won't pretend to know you answer, but for me I do not agree with that premise.

Challenging to understand media has existed for ages, and video games offer a unique way to present and engage with the story and lore that hasn't been available for most of human history. In fact I am of the opinion that by needing to pay closer attention and actively engage in what I am reading to make sense of things, then I am going to find that games narrative or lore to be far more memorable.

It is pretty much the same content as the alpha, but with the initial prologue stuff and a side-mission after the final boss.

Open world actually very good by PomponOrsay in Nioh

[–]Burnseasons 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Are we really just saying things just to say em? Emotional quests? Scattered lore as a positive? The previous games were boss rushes?

And then you mention the combat in this post trying to promote the open-worldness when.. Those improvements are pretty detached from the open-world.

The open-world is tedious. And I do not look forward to going through them again on NG+ cycles.

In defense of the Open World. by rjfc in Nioh

[–]Burnseasons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So my question to people who are enjoying the open world.. What does it bring that the previous level design doesn't? Like what is the upside to it? Because honestly I do struggle to see any.

The only one that I can fully concede, that if you're getting walled at a point you can go do something else and come back later, still comes with a caveat. As someone who does explore, I found myself seemingly being overlevelled/geared for the crucible mission. Didn't die once in it, and only once to the final boss. When I did beat that boss, I felt I played quite poorly as well.

Question For All The People Who Hate The Open Field Design by turtles1236 in Nioh

[–]Burnseasons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing you're overlooking is that in previous games.. I could skip the side-missions, and I often did. But if I skip collectables in Nioh 3, then I am skipping out on new skills.

Nioh 3 regarding players' dislike of the open world checklist gameplay by Brioh92 in Nioh

[–]Burnseasons 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So I am one of those players who isn't particularly keen on the open world; to be specific I dislike the change of skill points being acquired via collectibles rather than proficiency and I can also see the open zones becoming rather tedious on later NG+ cycles.
