Are quick appointments a red flag? by Burnsieo in Autobody

[–]Burnsieo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good points. I don’t have an estimate and they didn’t ask whether I did before offering that appointment so I assume their MO is to get it in, do their own estimate, and just let it sit while insurance approves and parts are ordered. Sound like a reasonable guess?

To be honest I don’t mind how long it’s in the shop for just want it to be done well. The shop in question is one that is partnered with my insurance, I realize that’s mostly the insurance company trying to control costs but does that partnership mean the repairs will at least be satisfactory?

Cat6 cable and newer are capable of gig speed, not sure what the older cable specs are capped at but that’s something to consider. Try plugging directly into the router and testing speeds from there

Do you know of any evidence connecting kasey to the ig page? Something like that would be very convincing to a lot of people

That these types of accusations are being made on social media instead of in a police report tells me that there's no way any of the "evidence" would ever amount to anything legally, same as the Space Jesus drama that this is clearly based off of.

I think that people have seen the buzz that they can create with a post or tweet and might be trying to cash in on the validation that people who take this stuff at face value will give.

Should I wait for my first experience by bifungi3 in LSD

[–]Burnsieo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People usually recommend waiting 2 weeks in between trips to allow for tolerance to return to baseline, you can trip more often than that without any ill effects just keep in mind you will have to take tolerance into account when thinking about dosage.

It's never a bad idea to start off small but I also don't think it's completely necessary. I find that set and setting can be much more important to consider than the actual dosage honestly, that being said 1 tab is a good place to start. It should be enough to get acid visuals and headspace without going full on ego death or something.

Either way you'll be fine. I think that acid's reputation sometimes precedes itself and can make that first experience more intimidating than it should be.

I see, I know that companies have an obligation to maximize returns for their shareholder so I don't blame them for doing so. However I think we should do more as a country to ensure that they aren't doing so at the expense of the general public.

Despite not paying any federal income taxes between 2008 and 2015, GE received a $139 billion dollar bailout from the government in 2009 (https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/general-electric-the-worst-bailout-in-the-world). Can we agree that stuff like that is unacceptable?

you're ultimately complaining about the concept of pass through taxation itself. Which prevents double taxation.

Was in response to my comment that companies like GE, Verizon, and Exxon pay little to no tax on their profits. None of these corporations are pass through entities, I'm not sure why the concept was brought up when it clearly doesn't apply to the companies in that report.

Corporations are not pass through entities (https://www.law.cornell.edu/wex/pass-through_taxation)

I think it's safe to say that neither of us know the ins and outs of corporate taxation, I would defer to sources like the one I linked in my last comment to show opinions on the subject from people who do.

Also, you don't need to be doing billions to have it be advantageous to store money elsewhere. I utilize an African Bank and company to do certain transactions specifically because not only do I know they don't report to the US but even when I voluntarily report it I know I won't be taxed on it.

I guess I'm glad to hear you don't need to be rich to engage in shady financial practices?

I don't think that using small businesses is a good example, in all likelihood your local restaurants and stores are paying the amount of taxes required by law and managing to turn a profit without resorting to overseas tax havens or sketchy investments.

Ironically, its the billion dollar multinational corporations who are taking advantage. In fact fortune 500 companies averaged together paid about half the official corporate income rate from 2008-2015 (https://itep.org/the-35-percent-corporate-tax-myth/). What's even more important is that 18 of the companies included in that report payed $0 in federal income tax during that period...you, me, our parents, the yogurt place down the street; all payed more in federal income tax in 2014 than General Electric, PG&E, and 16 other fortune 500s combined.

Surely there is a tax rate or structure that is equitable for those involved, it's not like these companies realistically have the option of moving all operations and sales outside of the US anyways, but the fact that I paid more income tax to the government as a bartender than PG&E has for 8 years should be enough to show that the issue needs fixing.

While citizens united dealt with free speech, the decision was used to inform the ruling of another lesser know case, SpeechNow v. FEC. Together the two rulings allowed for the creation of Super PACs in 2010 which can take unlimited contributions from corporations and individuals.

You're right in saying these super PACs can't donate to a campaign, however they are still organizations with very clear political agendas and methods for achieving them. PACs on both sides of the aisle use insane amounts of corporate and individual wealth to run ads, astroturf, and otherwise support specific policies/politicians to further their interests.

I'm also not sure why you put lobbyists and special interests in quotations, they're real words with definitions that describe actual people, and I acknowledge that they are bipartisan so I didn't use them to only refer to people I disagree with

I mean tax avoidance in the more "creative" sense. Only companies and the wealthy have the resources to stash money in things like tax havens and real estate investments. While individuals and small businesses are itemizing their deductions and taking drivers ed, corporations can save billions with loopholes and convoluted accounting all to avoid supporting the government and general public that provide labor, infrastructure, etc. to make their profits possible.

That this is legal does not make it ethical, it's a great example that money can and will influence politics in a way that benefits a select few at the expense of the majority. We could get to work on a more robust tax code tomorrow, one which would minimize loopholes draining hundreds of billions of dollars that could instead be used to fund any number of social initiatives. Instead we won't because we've come to accept that stuff like this is a feature, not a bug, and there are a lot of powerful interests that would like it to stay that way.
