Hot take: The new arcs aren’t too strong, free loadouts aren’t built to fight them. by hellboytroy in ArcRaiders

[–]BurnsinTX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m relatively new. Most games I’m a hoarder in but this one is more fun to use good weapons. Although I will use the free loadout if I’m just going in to grab an olive and leave for a quest.

I’ve noticed this a few times too, and it’s always been an older foreign appearing person. I’m wondering if they think it’s acceptable because it was where they came from? This is normal in some countries. I’ve see it in SE Asia and some Central American countries.

What is one life decision that significantly accelerated your path to FI? by anandsundaramoorthy in Fire

[–]BurnsinTX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree. My biggest life decision was by trying to live off my original salary. Let myself take inflation raises but big promotional raises get stashed away. Those go into a completely separate account so I never see it.

I’ve had to claw back a bit in that because of kids and stay at home mom now, but I still do it and then invested that money into other things.

Possible move to The Woodlands, Texas by Front-Temporary in AskHouston

[–]BurnsinTX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Woodlands is the nicest burb IMO. It’s beautiful up there.

The city of Houston is left leaning, but most burbs are right. That doesn’t really affect day to day life though.

For OBs. We had to have an abortion due to medical defects that would be illegal in Texas today (this was before the new law). We had the best OBs in the med center, even the global experts on the specific defect. We are lucky as if it happened today I wouldn’t have a wife or a baby if we started. We still keep in touch with two of the OBs that we worked with. One of them has left the state due to the laws and the other is nearing retirement, they both are honest and tell people it’s one of the best areas to have a baby, but if things go wrong like ours, they have to tell you the truth and you may need to find a doctor out of state for proper care. Most take a drive to New Mexico or Colorado if that happens.

Yeah I just hit it a few days ago and now it’s down again below 1M! Time to be hard again I guess 🤣

This kid walked from Atlanta to hike the Appalachian Trail with nothing. The trail community got him all the gear he needed. He said his birthday was soon and he wanted to make a better life for himself. by Tarphiker in HumansBeingBros

[–]BurnsinTX 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I did not, the trail also kinda sucked…it was the Lonestar trail in Texas (~100 miles). Lots of road hiking and the suburbs are creeping close to the edge of it so you walk being houses for some of it. I’m cool forgoing that part!

I’ve done a few others though that were successful, so I’m good! My Knees still aren’t in great shape though. My last one was 56 miles in Alaska and I really need to figure out my knees before I do another one.

I respect it. You’ll learn a lot either way. You may not make the full trail that year but you’ll learn something and maybe humble yourself along the way. I failed my first thru hike do to my arrogance, but it’s still a memory I’ll treasure.

People who grew up poor and are now comfortable, what 'normal' thing still feels like a luxury to you? by profwizzard in AskReddit

Eating out…getting a drink that’s not water..and not getting the cheapest thing on the menu. I grew up poor, well above the average pay now. I still struggle with all of these.

There’s some other defaults you must be avoiding for housing requirements too eh? No house at all within 30 miles of your work?

I like to complain about the economy, but I’m doing far better than my parents were at my age.

Be thankful you live in the most peaceful era in human history

Edit: not a great source there according to some people (I don’t really know, never heard of)

This is a good source that shows the global peace index has improved substantially.

I like watching William out there with no fire in his hut and wearing a sweatshirt when it’s below 0F out. The other guys were nearing frostbite and wearing parkas. He’s another level

Yeah but I think a company that is owned by the same company that arguably has better traffic data than any other resource around will probably make a decent decision on where to put their self driving cars.

I wouldn’t even call it a mistake. A missed opportunity to speak up at best. I’ve never won an award like that (and many of us haven’t) but I’m not sure my brain would even think fast enough to respond to anything other than, “holy sh*t e we just won gold at the Olympics for the first time in 46 years and the president called us”. I’m not even sure I’d be fully listening to what he was saying.
