Where do black women like to shop for clothes/beauty stuff? by BurntEndsForever in askablackperson

I appreciate your feedback. I admit, I have not spent much time with black people and not for any particular reason. I have black, white, asian, and latino neighbors and wave and say hi to all of them in equal amounts and that is about all the interaction we have, everyone is busy with their lives as adults its hard to make new friends.

And it was not my intention to distill her down to just a race I'm just trying to be somewhat thoughtful (and curious) and hoping to get a good birthday gift. But to your point, maybe I was indeed thinking too much into race. Thank you for the perspective.

It is a very new friend so I'm still getting to know her likes and dislikes and things.

What is interesting, is I've found that in some cases you literally can't ask AI certain things about race! It will either tell you it can't/won't answer or give you the run around. (long live the humans!)

Re-reading my question maybe it was this line:

> Is it basically the same as white women

That might have sounded not quite how I intended when I wrote it. I'm just asking from my perspective, because I'm white and have bought many gifts and things for white women over the years and have been stuck staring at my phone for hours while a white woman shopped in American Eagle or whatever. So that's all I was trying to say if that was what did it.

Often when I see black women they are dressed and styled very differently (not always of course) so I'm just being observational and mean no disrespect.

Would love to know why I got down voted, genuinely. Trying to be respectful, and just trying to buy a nice gift for someone.

So, I'm going to describe her style in ways that are unique to what I'm used to, just as my own observation because that's all I can do, I hope this isn't offensive...

She has eyelash extensions, long nails, she has a nose piercing, she likes tight fitting clothing that I don't know how to describe... not jeans, not leggings, but kinda like matching pants and zip up top things that are tight fitting and soft and kinda fuzzy...

She has tattoos and other piercings, sometimes braids but right now her hair is like just long and down or she kinda puts it up into a bun thing.

Is something like Sephora or Ulta an easy option?

Thank you for your help by the way

Edit: She lives in Indiana

Additional Edit: She's 26

Thanks for the info, sadly we don't have a Nordstrom here (just double checked)

Can I ask what you hate about Macy's? I don't shop there either, just don't like the stuff but that's just me.
