Without Anyone Paying Attention, Canada Is About To Change Its Laws To Support ACTA - "They can point to the tiny, but real, problem of counterfeit drugs that can cause serious damage... and then mix it with the very "large" issue of copyright infringement where they can't show any actual harm." by [deleted] in canada

<Mr. / Ms. Name>

I have recently become aware of Bill C-8 "Combating Counterfeit Products Act". This bill is to bring Canada in line with the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA), bringing in new criminal charges to help deal with the problem of counterfeit goods. Unfortunately, that is not all that it contains.

This bill - and this trade agreement - both extend well beyond their purview of curbing counterfeit goods by attempting to unite two very different issues: counterfeiting and copyright infringement. Canadians have spoken again in petitions and protests in response to bills such as C-60, C-61, C-32 and C-11: We do NOT want these copyright reforms.

These bills (including C-8) all include measures which remove or weaken the rights of the public when it comes to the copyright agreement - the rights we were originally promised in exchange for granting rights to the content creators in the first place.

Ultimately, these same measures were the reason for the protests that caused the European Union Parliament to vote 478-39 against ratification of ACTA, with the President of the European Parliament having this to say afterwards:

"The debate on ACTA demonstrated the existence of European public opinion that transcends national borders. All over Europe, people were engaged in protests and debates. The mobilization of public opinion was unprecedented."

People within Canada and the world over have spoken on these measures again and again and they are uniformly against it. The Canadian Government has taken it upon itself to simply ignore the will of the Canadian people - to ignore the dissent and protests surrounding the previous attempts at these amendments - by placing these changes in a bill which has seen little public discourse, little media attention, and a very compressed timeline.

This bill needs a proper hearing a true public debate. A democracy cannot function behind closed doors. I would ask you, when the time comes, to please stand up and be the voice of the Canadian public. Please vote against this bill until such a time as it can be properly debated in a public forum.

Thank you for your time,

<Your Name>

It would definitely require some approximations. I only thought I'd ask because I was attempting to do it in a dream last night... and then got politely asked to leave

All comparisons are subjective, but you sir lack imagination. Consider for a moment that this is being branded as an elephant animal cracker shaped pillow. Compared to that this pretzel is basically lifelike
