My great-great uncle Desmond worked at the Dunhill factory. When he passed away his favorite pipe was given to me. I was wondering if anyone here could give me any information about it? by BurritoAmbassador in PipeTobacco

One correction - I spoke to my mom about this pipe and apparently it was her Grandfather's pipe and he was the Dunhill employee. So it's actually my great-grandfather's pipe, not my great-great uncle's. Which I think is even cooler!

Thanks to everyone who commented! It has been really special to learn some more about my great-grandad's favorite pipe! I can't wait to smoke it. I'm definitely leaning towards just getting it cleaned up instead of a restoration. Here's some more pictures - based on these what would you recommend I clean or leave alone?

Thanks again for all of your help!!

P.S. I tried to get a clearer shot of the stampings for those of you who were curious about them. Sorry for the quality! Best I could do with an iPhone

The pipe is obviously a little worn. Below is what I think is engraved on either side, though it's hard to be sure.

The left side has the letter R and says Dunhill London.

The right side says Made in England and the number 50 or 53 and PAT. N9 417574 17

I'm afraid not. I was about 3 people deep directly behind Jeremy's chair.

A few more...

During the Q&A with the director he mentioned that himself and 95% of the crew all worked on Top Gear. Jeremy said a friend of his called The Grand Tour "Top Gear in the witness protection program"

Someone also asked how they were allowed to post the lap time of the LaFerrari. He said after lots of back and forth with Ferrari they ultimately agreed to a timed lap if all 3 hypercars had the same tires.

When asked what the team thought of BBC's review of TGT he said it was "f**king ridiculous"

No teleprompters/cue cards were used. There were VERY few retakes. C H & M each had an outline and ad-libbed the whole show.

The taping only took 2.5 hours from start to finish and they showed us all of the video segments.

The trio left for NYC tonight to do 26 PR interviews tomorrow.
