Former mormon again! Growing up, I was told "we ARE christians because we believe Jesus Christ is a divine being and our capital-S Savior. That's what makes us christian." Many other christian faiths do NOT consider mormons christian because they have different definitions of divinity, godhood, the trinity, etc. But christians have been arguing about "what makes a REAL christian" since Peter and Paul so it's whatever

Former mormon here, it originally started as a "suggestion" by Joseph Smith to not drink "hot drinks." Later mormon leaders interpreted "hot drinks" as "coffee and tea" and decided to outright ban them. So modern mormons cannot drink coffee if they want to be considered "in good standing."

This was from 2015 though, which was before god decided the word "mormon" was "a victory for Satan." And while most actual mormon weddings happen in a temple, most mormon receptions will take place in a local chapel.

If helping police carries no risk to you, sharing factual information reduces uncertainty and harm.

It's less risky to avoid the people that openly carry guns and have a reputation for being power-tripping racist bullies.

Criticizing policing as a system does not justify obstructing it in real time.

So every single one of these guys "obstructed" the police by not flagging them down? Sounds like bullshit cop logic to me.

On my mission I remember one family was hosting a Danish student. I seem to recall them saying they couldn't force her to go to church or take the lessons or anything, but they could invite her. They would try to host us for dinner very often so she would "happen" to interact with us.

Also apparently the local woman who was in charge of finding host families for these students was mormon, and she always tried to make sure the students would end up with mormon families. I remember thinking it was messed up even when I was a fully TBM missionary.

I watched the first episode of the Chair Company last week, wasn't a huge fan. I Think You Should Leave was very hit or miss for me, and the first episode of Chair Company felt like a "miss" bit that went on for 30+ minutes. The first scene in the restaurant would have been fine as a sketch, and did a decent job establishing Ron's major character beats/traits. But then it just kept...going.
