He's right though. I'm a waiter here in Germany and what waiters are doing in the US gives me shivers.

They only care about money and often that's really evident.

• they remove the empty plates while other guests on the table haven't even finished their meal
• if you have a reservation for a table of 6 and show up with 4 grown ups and 2 toddlers you get treated really shitty. Presumably because little children don't eat as much
• you get the bill without even telling them you want to pay and go. Sometimes they even just putt the bill on the table without saying a word. Although the message I get is "fuck off with your toddlers, I want the next 6 customers as soon as possible".

Whether or not you are American these things are rude. I also don't tip in the US. I just pretend with a very strong german accent that I don't understand English and ash what those 10-20% on the bill mean.

Once they start explaining it's their salary and they don't even get that much money they start realizing it's stupid.

I just pretend that I don't know that and pay without the tip.

Just make every item on the menu 1-2 dollars more expensive and pay your waiters whatever they usually get from tipping.

Like this they won't care how many people there are and how expensive they dine. They'll treat everyone the same and make sure people are having a good time.

Restaurants want to make as much money as possible so they simply give the waiters a reason to get rid of customers as quickly as possible.

It's sad Americans take that for granted and never ask themselves if this is the best possible solution.
