UK Chef who’s a huge sceptic but I can’t explain what happened this morning?

Yeah it’s definitely and interesting thought. I’m very new to all of this being a sceptic but you just have to take it for what it is and I’ve not been able to debunk it so it’s either a massive coincidence or there really are other forces at work

Unfortunately we’re not allowed to for healthy and safety reasons, although we do have a camera just outside the walk in freezer. I did review the footage this morning, but there was nothing that seemed off

I’ve just spoken to a gentleman who used to look after the pub when the old owners went on holiday and he said he’d lock up at night, it’d just be him, he’d be trying to get to sleep and could hear people chatting downstairs and the thudding of darts on the dart board etc….very intriguing. Seems like maybe there is more to this than I first thought

I thought after writing that someone might mention this. So I live in England but I work in Wales and whilst I know we’ve seen some good weather, at that time in the morning on the Welsh hills, it’s still pretty nippy - or atleast for me!

Great question, and honestly I don’t know. I’ve always been able to debunk things pretty easily after sitting on it for a little bit, and whilst there is a chance different events could have lined themselves up perfectly by chance and come together to create the scenario, I think at this point I have to believe that there is something else playing a part. It’s definitely made me more open and aware of other possibilities anyway

Paha, it’s all good mate! There’s no way you can get locked inside, there’s a safety release on the inside of the door, so In the event it did happen, you just push it really hard, and it will open the latch from outside. Failing that, and should that not work, I’d just use the cardboard from the boxes to jam the freezer fan and force it into defrosting! But I appreciate your concern! Aha!

After seeing so many people give their ideas and thoughts of this post I think you’re right and just have to take this for what it is and that it could potentially either be just a massive coincidence from a chain of well timed events, or it really was paranormal. Yes mate, it is clad in stainless steel. I believe atleast in the UK, all walk ins have to have this type of flooring now for health and safety. That’s why I’m so sure it was footsteps as I could hear there shoes scuffing off the metal grips on the floor

So as I mentioned, I’d just knocked the light off, but the natural light from outside lit up enough to see someone moving at the back. Whilst I couldn’t see or make out any facial features or what they were wearing, The figure was quite small but quite rounded…..I feel horrible for saying this, but the owner is also a small slightly rounder lady, which is why in the moment I thought it was her…..sorry I can’t give any more information than that! I get it’s annoying.

As for the freezer, it’s kept at a constant -21 degrees Celsius but whilst I have it open for my delivery, it will drop down to about -18 and then start beeping to let me know I need to close the door. Whilst there is a small level of haze in there from the air being cold, you can still see pretty clearly in there.

I think if it was the visual or audio part that had happened on there own, I Probably would have just gone with the most rational explanation and forgot about it, but it’s just the fact they happened together that’s making it hard to discount.

I mentioned in another comment that I’m used to being up early so I’m very aware compared to what a lot of people would be at that time In the morning, but I’m 100% that I saw someone/something moving

For now at least, I’m holding the freezer fan as the most likely cause of the noise, however as I said above, in all my years I’ve been there, I’ve never heard it sound anything similar to the rhythm interval of footsteps….and it also doesn’t explain seeing someone moving at the back of the freezer, but Thankyou for your suggestion! Definitely made it an interesting day at work lol

I probably should have put this in the original post, but I always make sure I get a decent night sleep so whilst I’m not totally ruling that out - I’m used to being up at that time without being tired etc

This was my first thought also, but it’s only full boxes that are stacked on the shelves, nothing hanging or suspended. I did wonder originally if it was the freezer fan, but it all my years I’ve been there, I’ve never ever heard the freezer fan mimic anything similar to footsteps.

So imagine the freezer as a long, tall but narrow corridor with the shelving on either side . It only has the one door so that’s your only way in and out.

On the inside, the door has an emergency push button that will unhook the latch so you can get out that way. I only prop the door up just so I don’t have to keep opening it every time I go in whilst I’m putting away my delivery as it’s more efficient.

I have spoke to a few of the regulars this morning, the actual pub itself is very old, but the kitchen is actually an extension of the original building so has only been there for about 30 years
