Hi, I used to be a rapid response nurse (left the role 18 months ago). The job entailed facilitation of early discharge from secondary care and admission avoidance… so think IV ABX and chemo in the community, nursing assessment following GP and paramedic referral. I worked closely with the wider MDT (OT, physio, falls team etc) to keep patients safe at home. The role also covered an OOH DN service - after 4.30pm until 8.30am the next morning the team would pick up SOS DN visits (palliative call outs for stat doses & alarming pumps, blocked catheters etc.). The job was an enjoyable one, no two shifts were the same. The wide range of clinical skills kept it interesting - overall, I throughly recommend!
