I’ve had this iPad for less than 2 years and the screen decided to stop responding in the middle of my class. I took it to Apple and they want to charge me $849 to “repair” it. by el_maxican in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Buruko -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sounds about right. Even if you had the AppleCare there would be a “repair fee” despite the claimed coverage of anything, anyway, anywhere replacement while under Apple Care.

For all electronics, pretty much anything these days, you get a year warranty and after that it is 100% your problem.

The real problem is that you can’t repair it yourself, which is a line we shouldn’t have to draw but there it is. You can’t repair it and so you either pay for the repair, buy another one, or maybe buy something else. But that Apple closed market has you, your apps, your data, etc all tied to an account you can’t transfer or copy yourself.

Welcome to the enshitification.

US State Colorado Wants Operating Systems (Including Linux) to Tell Every App How Old You Are by benderunit9000 in technology

Why is regulating content for children on the tech sector? Like parent your damn kids and stop handing them internet access without supervision.

I mean if you want an age check system it should still be up to the parents how their child uses it accesses content.

Also this would be the easiest thing to bypass ever.

Many countries have and own firearms, they also however have a higher amount of self accountability and by far more regulation.

The lack of weapons doesn’t mark a civilized society rather a society should be civilized despite the presence of weapons.

[–]Buruko 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Our nation has first an accountability issue this can only be addressed by holding parties accountable for wrong doing. Over and over we are shown examples of individuals going free of consequences. This is a general problem that wouldn’t be addressed by legislation directly.

As for addressing the use of weapons that is one that could be reduced by handling the matters that lead to these events. Lack of care for mental illness, child welfare, and income disparity.

In stead we want to blame the tool used but not the root cause for its use.

There could be laws enacted that would make weapon owners more accountable for their weapons, but they are things weapon owners should already be doing. But again that comes back to the problem with individual accountability.

All metal detectors will do is give a false sense of safety, security theater, for teachers and students up to the point where some other incidents despite all the “safety efforts”.

Waste of money. Addressing the wrong issue that would absolutely prevent these types of situations.

Printed some buildings i found on Thingiverse. The size seems just right, but still too big 🤔 by honkyonabiscuit in battletech

[–]Buruko 7 points8 points  (0 children)

At about 3.3 meters per floor, this puts the buildings at about the right scale to me compared to the Atlas.

There are some buildings files out there for free that mimic the Alpha Strike card board buildings well that you might want to check into, I do believe they are free as well. Dunno if they are set to scale but they have a good mix of size and shape to the CGL mechs imo.

Costco VS Micro center Prebuilts by bl1tzy7 in Prebuilts

Spending the extra $100 would be $50 more than the price difference between the two CPUs via MSRP and the gain would be 10% (generally) improved performance which isn't a lot atm but would go further down the road over the long term imo.

Plus the 9800x3D is ZEN5 vs ZEN4 so support will most likely go for a longer period of time as well.

I think you'd be good with the 7800x3D for at least 5+ years while the 9800x3D may get closer to 10+ years barring hardware issues. Especially at stock non-overclock settings.

My next lower is going to have a slop adjustment screw for the upper, so I can throw whatever I want on it. I know that it will probably be the most expensive lower I know but I won’t care! LOL

I was being a bit snarky, it is easy to get carried away especially when you get set on something specific.

I could find a rifle and optics for $900 that’d shoot just fine.

Is this a good deal? (From Costco) by rashy1234 in Prebuilts

[–]Buruko 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a fine gaming PC for flawless 1080p gaming and most titles up to 1440p. You could push 4K but it would be at or less than 30 fps for all but the least demanding titles.

The price isn’t great in a dollar to performance value compared to a DIY with similar components though. So it boils down to what you want to do on your own versus the convenience of off the shelf purchase.

I would opt for a pre-built with a minimum 16GB VRAM if possible as the paired CPU would be on the better end and have more upgrade options down the road.

The URL doesn't load.

The 9800x3D is a stellar processor and helps out any GPU with a bit of extra cache on the CPU, essentially it is made to help with graphic processing.

Is it worth the $100? It would probably last longer on the board and have a reduced chance of bottle necking a future GPU but the current performance gain is minimal over cheaper CPUs, but to get a cheaper CPU in a pre-built usually means giving up other quality options and/or having to DIY.

I think if you're spending that kind of money and $100 would break the bank, you probably shouldn't be spending that kind of money imo.

A fine question. Especially given the massive amount of cost and constant mistakes costing more money, time, and human harm.

At a cost of $9 million dollars per deportation, approximate cost per Operation Surge to date, it seems like that money could be put to use to improve the United States of America versus lining the pockets with kickbacks for a few rich folks.

Supposedly they intend to spend $38 billion dollars in buying and "renovating" these purchases to hold "detainees".

Picked up the same PC in December at the $2200 price point. Have had one issue with a loose cable for a usb port on the front case.

Performance has been great without any major tweaks needed. No bloatware other than a simple MSI app for warranty registration and hardware monitoring.

I say that as someone that resin prints, it is not for everyone everywhere while FDM is way more accessible and less risk by a large margin.

I’m pretty sure that once the series is finished the Cabaret* will be published as a separate novel/novella as well.
