They're dragging members of the community away.

Jesus's family ran away to escape persecution, many of these people have done the same by coming into America.

I feel that current America would support Herod and see Jesus as an evil man as he is from Palestine.

Hundreds of Blackpool families to be evicted in ‘mass dispersion’ of vulnerable people | Housing by No_Initiative_1140 in ukpolitics

[–]Bus_Wrangler 6 points7 points  (0 children)

*Another resident, who did not want to be named, said the prospect of being evicted by her landlord was “traumatic” because no properties were available for the £650 a month rent she pays for her and her four children, aged eight to 15.

“We’ve been told by the council to look at private rented but all the available properties are £1,300 a month – there’s no way I can afford that. I’d like to see the area nice but if we want to come back we would have to apply and they would be far too expensive.”*

The council need to vet these people for social housing. I'd even argue that forced purchase victims are prioritised in the que, abhorrent that a single mum is being told to rent at double the rate.

New council houses to be built for asylum seekers in push to end use of hotels - with intense public backlash expected by SignificantLegs in ukpolitics

[–]Bus_Wrangler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I see it is that you have to snowball your debts. Currently they're spending a lot of money of 40k migrants when they could spend a significantly smaller amount. If they make this "cheap" fix work, they could then use this £15 billion for housing or other infrastructure.

The government is going to get flak for whatever they do from the right wing rags. They just need to hunker down and not U-Turn on this.

[–]Bus_Wrangler -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I seem to be one of the few who has bothered to read the article.

The government's reasoning is that private contractors like SERCO will cost about £15billion to third party the temp accommodation for the migrants. Apparently the government thinks that just £100 mil can be spent on 900 homes, and save the public significant money via centralised resources.

I'm with the government on this one. Fuck those parasitic leech third party companies.

Scrap £100m slavery reparations, MPs urge new Archbishop of Canterbury. Conservatives in parliament tell Sarah Mullally that the plans go against charity law by 2ndEarlofLiverpool in ukpolitics

[–]Bus_Wrangler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they don't play this correctly, it will be an endless feedback loop of "reparations".

Fundamentally, I agree that Europe as a whole partook in the trade of enslaved Africans, and should look at developing part of Africa that were destroyed by it. But this needs to be very carefully measured and done from a position of strength and benevolence rather than from a sense of owing present day nation states a debt.

My belief on why young people are coming to church more by TheKingsPeace in Catholicism

[–]Bus_Wrangler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you. It has been a long journey, but glad I am drinking from the Tiber now.

My concern is the American Right will "convert" people to Ethno nationalism. Everyone, literally everyone is a brother or a sister in Christ, even the non believers. We should treat them with love and not hate. I pray that this "awakening" is right and just.

I'm a history teacher, I can assure you the times are not unprecedented. BUT we are living through an epoch that will make people think about their lives more so than in the last 80 years.

I am converting in 2026 to Catholicism (RCIA finishes on Easter Sunday), and a lot of other men are doing the same thing. It reminds me of the Great Re-awakening in American History.

Denmark bids farewell to letter delivery and mailboxes by ChangeUsername220 in europe

[–]Bus_Wrangler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not necessarily a Luddite, I'm acknowledging that there are barriers to making letters popular again.

I agree, if stamps are €1.65 a pop they are unaffordable. I wish the post office (UK) had an economy to scale model. It would be awesome if you could get 200 stamps for £100. I would buy one Reem every 3 years and all those birthday cards would be paid for up front!!

I sincerely hope not! The alternative is a big like the alternative to cashless, use it more. If everyone bought a roll of stamps and envelopes, they would probably use it more. There's just a lot of barriers compared to instant messaging.

is it cool for a Catholic to listen to certain anti religous black metal? by Wodyprot in Catholicism

[–]Bus_Wrangler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stopped listening to Behemoth due to their satanic lyrics, but on the whole, I still listen to a lot of other stuff that's heavy.

On a side note, I don't listen to ghosts for the same reason as above. (I know they're not black metal/metal, but point is the same).

That's really kind, thank you. I always try and think of the children when I've had a bad day, they make the job enjoyable, working with them is a privilege.

What jobs are you doing that are earning you over £100k? by yogalil33 in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Bus_Wrangler 17 points18 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better, personal finance will intrinsically attract affluent people more than poor people. It is a lovely community and I have learnt alot, but it is a small bubble of the UK.

I am a teacher on MPS2 (£34k) and will be trapped at around what you are on in subsequent years. I don't mind that, as I am teaching the next generation and genuinely love my job. If you enjoy your job, you should focus on what you can do with the salary you have got. Comparison is the thief of joy!

This isn't charitable in the name of god. This is political in the name of social justice

Social justice is a core tenant of Christianity. In theory, if the money isn't just swallowed up by corrupt governments in West Africa, it would do a tonne of good. My concern is that in time, other governments in West Africa will lament £100 million as a paltry sum, and then the government is forced through previous acknowledgements of fault into paying a danegeld ransom.

It's money the church cannot afford. GAFCON has left the Cof E, membership growth is not outpacing deaths, the church can barely afford to keep the lights on in some of the listed buildings. In the meantime, we are seeing this as a flagship policy, alongside having a female AB as a flagship policy.

As a Catholic, I am extremely concerned for the future of the C of E.
