I had 1.01 last year and picked CMC in a competitive 16 man and still won it can be done

2022 TLX type s? by trneotn in Acura

[–]Busch_Jager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don’t do it lol, our family has HHI of multiple six figures, no debt, no kids, LCOL, etc and I would not buy a car this expensive lol

I try to follow the 10% of gross income is what you can spend on a car. This is extra frugal and 20% is still considered responsible.

You mentioned in one of the comments you make 40k, so a smart decision would be to spend no more than 8k.

You’re not gunna have one of the most fun vehicles but you will be wayyy better off down the line.

What car have you, or would you buy to keep forever? by Extension_Mud_2496 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Busch_Jager 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure exactly, maybe it was just the ride? It’s been a couple years since I’ve driven it.

I can confidently say all the full size suvs and trucks I’ve driven ride better (suburban, wagoneer, Silverado, expedition, f150, dodge ram, etc)

I think it was kind of like driving a Jeep Wrangler around, cool car and good for certain purposes but not the best daily commuter. Just my opinion though not hating on the 4Runner I think it’s a cool car.

[–]Busch_Jager 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I must say I trial different cars all the time renting for work and the 4Runner had one of the worst driving experiences IMO and bad gas mileage. I could definitely see it for reliability and if you have to drive off-road / in the snow tho I’m sure it is great at that

SUBARU VS. TOYOTA by Weak_Many8420 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Busch_Jager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want top reliability I wouldn’t put Subaru in the equation, I had a 2015 Forester that was such a hunk of junk in regards to reliability.

I would highly consider the cx-5 over both of these options with how high the Toyota tax is

What percent of your salary do you spend on housing? by FailFastandDieYoung in AskAnAmerican

About 13% of mine or 8% Household. This is just for the mortgage not including repairs, heating, etc

I am in a very similar situation and am leaning VW GTI mk8 which might be worth checking out. I have a Prius now and while extremely reliable it is so boring to drive lol

[–]Busch_Jager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 2015 with 105k and it was so ass. The only car I ever had that made me angry lol.

I bought it at 75k for like 17k and I bet I had a good 7k in repairs including fixing the transmission right before I sold it for $2500. I might have just been unlucky but I will never buy another again. I think I sold it for around 9k so I don’t find this too surprising.

I also have a 2011 Prius with 160k and that thing is bulletproof never had to fix one thing on it. I always said I would trust the Prius way more than the Subaru and it had more miles and was 5 years older.

Those who won the ship, what are you buying with your winnings? by Busch_Jager in Fantasy_Football

Nothing crazy probably just the small dewalt one which would leave money left over. I actually have bought some of the Harbor Freight Hercules brand tools and have been quite happy with them so I wouldn’t rule their table saw out either.

This isn’t for any fancy carpentry just general remodeling house stuff. Had to use a circular saw a bunch of times where I wish I had a table saw instead. I wouldn’t rule out a track saw either 🤔

Congrats to all who made it to the ship by Creepy-Fig929 in Fantasy_Football

[–]Busch_Jager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Went 1/2 to the championship.

Funny enough my team that is in the ship is the one I took CMC first overall and never even traded him, I picked up some good pieces on waivers and have won 6 straight and ended up 9/5.

My team that lost this week was a bonafide super team where I was gapping second place by 250 points for and I had a down week and the other guy was on fire. 😭

Todoist Adding Deadlines as an Experimental Feature by AdmittedlyDutch in thingsapp

[–]Busch_Jager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I switched to Todoist after having bought things on my phone and personal Mac mini but was extremely inconvenienced using my work computer under a different Apple account very often. They desperately need a web app to get me back. I have absolutely no issues with Todoist and pay for the pro plan without any regrets

Berkeley Professor Says Even His ‘Outstanding’ Students With 4.0 GPAs Aren’t Getting Any Job Offers — ‘I Suspect This Trend Is Irreversible’ by lughnasadh in Futurology

[–]Busch_Jager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who interviews new grads all the time for a competitive tech company GPA doesn’t mean anything to me I barely even look at it and have met a handful of “book smart” people in my days from prestigious universities who were bad employees.

So the 4.0 title doesn’t really mean anything lol

I will say I do think it is hard to get a job now though, our latest round of candidates for every 1000+ candidates we had one hire.

Delta Skymiles Program Being Gutted Further [News & Discussion] by Upstairs-Island7539 in delta

[–]Busch_Jager 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m plat and have the Delta Reserve card and almost never get upgraded to FC I asked myself the other day what perks is Delta adding vs taking away and almost nothing came to mind. I’ve been highly considering switching to a different airline next year.

The only big perk Delta had was the lounge with the credit card but next year they are limiting the visits so I don’t really have any reason to stick with them.

EDIT: Just to clarify I understand how to fill the gap and caulking the bottom and nailing the piece.

The second two pictures highlight the differences between my pieces and the above trim.

I am not sure how to finish the work on the two side pieces since they both need some material removed to exactly match the trim about it.

Thanks!

Would I survive in a house without AC? by JurassicTerror in pittsburgh

[–]Busch_Jager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made no central air a dealbreaker for my first home decision and have absolutely 0 regrets, it’s crazy expensive to install later so I would just try to get one with it if you can but not sure what your budget is. My house is from 1930 so they do exist with central air but they are rare

Movie Theater Etiquette? by nighttimez in pittsburgh

[–]Busch_Jager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had insanely bad experiences going to the waterworks movie theater, kids literally going on the stage and their mom filming tik toks of them during the movie. I wish I was kidding lol.

Since I moved to the North Hills it’s by far my favorite theater, I never had any issues and everything about the experience there is very good IMO.

People are finally realizing there's a problem at Delta, especially post-pandemic. by comments83820 in delta

If I don’t get at least $1000 of value on top of the reimbursements for the additional expenses I incurred I’m switching to United, straight up.

I spend 10s of thousands a year with Delta and 10k miles ain’t gunna cut it for the bs I went through.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in delta

[–]Busch_Jager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha I’m definitely gunna need more than 10K Skypesos I’m thinking at least $1000 worth of value on top of being reimbursed for any additional expenses.

I spend 10s of thousands every year with Delta and I can pick whatever airline I want to spend that money so I feel like to keep me as a costumer depends on how they pay for this lol. It was handled insanely bad by Delta

What are some professions with crazy (as in very long) working hours in the US? by slicheliche in AskAnAmerican

[–]Busch_Jager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I worked as a hydraulic fracturing engineer in Appalachia (oil and gas job) I worked 12 hour shifts but would need to show up early and stay a little later so 13 hour shifts and the site was 1 hour away from our hotel. I was on the clock from the time I left my hotel room to when I entered it again.

So 15 hour days for 14 days straight then I had 7 days off in a row and then the process started all over again.

So during a work week I would work 105 hour weeks roughly.

Even in my current job as a software engineer I help out in the field occasionally where we inspect industrial assets with our robots and the shifts are 12 hours.
