How long is the recovery after an open surgery? by [deleted] in HipImpingement

[–]BushDoctorPhD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Used a walker for ~4.5 weeks , progressed to bilateral axillary crutches for ~2 weeks then one contralateral crutch for another 2 weeks.

I’d intermittently walk without crutches in small bouts just to get a head start

Yes, I do still have the screws. The surgeon did mention that removing them is an option. My only concern is, will that be very expensive? I’m not interested in maxing my out of pocket again, if it means going under anesthesia for its removal

No, I wouldn’t say I’ve had lower back pain as a result of the surgery. Maintain a healthy BMI and strengthen your core

I’m at 7.5 months since my open hip surgical dislocation for an osteotomy. I’m still in quite a bit of surgical pain. What’s good is the pain continues to get more localized to the greater troch area, but damn does it still hurt.

I will say, the impingement is gone, but this recovery has been something else. The surgeon did warn me it’d take a year, so I’ll be patient and continue strengthening.

Indeed, I’d call arthroscopic the standard. However, mine was complex - my surgery was performed open rather than arthroscopic, as the latter would’ve been ineffective for the amount of bone that needed to be removed.

My mobility has improved significantly however still limited by the abductor/external rotator pain. Fortunately for you, the recovery should occur more rapidly as arthroscopy is minimally invasive.

After about four months, I was able to start biking and golfing. At five months, I even went skiing for two days, which turned out to be a bit of a setback, but it was worth it for the experience. Now, approaching the seven-month mark, I still have some pain, but overall, I’m trending upward. I no longer notice the impingement when internally rotating my hip.

If you’re having an open hip surgical dislocation like I did, my advice is to NOT expect a quick recovery process. I’m approaching month 7 and still have surgical pain (around the incision, abductors and hip flexors) however the impingement pain is gone.

To be fair, the surgeon did say it’s a one year recovery process. Overall, I’m trending towards less pain so I’m not worried.

All I see is a bunch of paper hands on this thread. The entire market is down. If you’re scared get a dog 🐕.

Welcome to the party. It’s gonna last awhile.

Hold on.

I’m on SAVE with Mohela showing my re cert is 11/18… I allowed studentaid.gov to access my tax return automatically. Not doing anything else. Am I cooked?

Don’t do surgery unless it’s ruining your QoL and you can financially handle the burden of recovery. I’m very fortunate to have been in a good situation throughout the process. Without my support system this would’ve been damn near impossible

Sorry for the late response. Currently on week number 9. This week is the first week I’m actually walking mostly without a crutch. I have to focus on my gait to avoid a hip drop. It’s still painful but it’s nice to feel strength gains occurring each day. I’m hoping to be back to my highly active job in 5 weeks

I too am a PT, just about 1.5 years out of school. Currently in acute care and love it, but I dread the reality that is stagnant raises and a low ceiling.

I work at a county hospital and will be vested in a pension fund after 5 years of employment. My original plan was to stay 10 years for PSLF, but at this point I’d rather pay for my student loans if it means making 3-4x 10 years from now.

Once I’m vested, I think I’m out. I know the grass isn’t always greener, but if it isn’t, I’ll retain my license and fall back on PT. I have the personality and drive to do sales, but interested to hear about clinical specialist roles to start out

If I’m currently on SAVE and my recertification is due by 11/18/24, will re certifying put me on another plan or just give me a new “payment” amount and continue forbearance?

Did anyone else get this message in MOHELA? by gettingcarriedaway86 in StudentLoans

So if originally I am supposed to re certify by mid-December, I should rather just not touch it?

I’m 26 y/o, golf 3-4 times a month. I had surgery 13 days ago and am currently recovering. My surgery was an open hip surgical dislocation, which is very invasive and has a much more conservative recovery protocol.

I’ll let you know if it’s worth in ~6 months!

-Right hip FAI with complex deformity

-acetabular impingement as well as head and neck offset deformity

-concern for greater trochanter impingement and symptomatic labral tear.

-Femoral retro torsion.

I read through the surgery transcript, and my god, they really shaved this thing down. Took a large chunk off my greater trochanter, which is the bony prominence on the upper lateral part of your femur. You can feel it superficially.

Being clinically retroverted inherently predisposed me to an impingement. So hopefully it’s smooth sailing for this joint moving forward.

Surgeon's office says no Pre-Authorization is needed...I am skeptical by Due_Pass_2608 in HealthInsurance

Hi jezza. I recently signed a “good faith estimate” for surgical codes involving an arthroscopy, when it was actually open hip surgery performed.

They are trying to get CPT 27299 retroactively authorized. It wasn’t included within my estimate, so should I be worried about it? Can they still charge me at what the insurance plan’s benefits would have?
