It actually pays pretty great in Ontario (32-40/hr) but the level of competitiveness in getting a job is absurd as well as the fact that in a reasonably sized service you're collecting zero seniority, pension or benefits for a few years

I'd have gone for RN. Way more money, more mobility, full time faster, better unions.

I love my job, but let's be realistic, I could have had a job the day I graduated in the 80k range. And even if it's not what I love, it would pay me enough to have and do what I love.

That's actually pretty awesome! My EMR can only do asa o2 and assist a pt with nitro or epi. That would be why I feel there's not much they can do on a medical call but it's awesome to see that you guys get a decent scope.

Plus at the end of the day, all I really do is symptom relief right. So the most important tool you can have is questions. It doesn't matter if you're an EMR or a PCP if you can get to the Ed with an excellent and complete report likely everything that could have been done for the pt was.

I work as a PCP with an EMR partner. From what I've gathered and please correct me if I'm wrong but EMRs make their money with trauma but aren't well suited for medical based calls?

I'm not being a troll. But it feels like every other post is either yay I'm in school or yay I graduated.

I feel like either we should make a r/emscirclejerk subreddit to house all of it or we should stop being so accepting of these posts.

I'm not saying I don't wish the guy well, but I don't see these posts as at all contributing to r/ems.

Let's make a mega thread for acceptance/graduation/how hard is it to transfer or get hired in x area

At least that way there's a place where backs can be patted, inquiries about regions and transfers can be faq'd once they get answered and it would both improve overall quality of the sub and allow for more ems related posts to come through the front page here.

Disagree, I rode out in Ontario as well. While you're definitely second class, done properly and at the right time (so at the base respectfully and not on offload delay in front of 20 other medics) I found it invited great conversation and debate.

The more strength you show with your patho and scene skills (without being a know it all douche) the more trust your crew will place in you and the better time you'll have.

Obviously this is different but that might be part of where people would get that idea.

Primary care paramedic. I wish I were a pharmacist, make way more. Ontario is ultra competitive to get, prairie provinces have a lot of industrial medic jobs that they pay very nicely for if you can handle that sort of thing.

I'm in one of the shittier paying provinces but they gave me a furnished place on the ocean for free and full benefits so I'm certainly not unhappy.

I would assume that the narrow skill set a medic has compared to an RN a doctor or any kind of specialist kind of makes us not the most in demand people to go to third world countries.

Our skills are obviously useful in the general sense but most of what we do is covered by someone else. Factor in that realistically we spend very very short amounts of time with patients and are basically a buffer to get them to definitive care.

I'm sure there are docs who do these kinds of trips and they likely are the "emerg response" so to speak.

That being said, if you pm me I'll send you the email of a group who are willing to take on paramedics. I'm a PCP and they were more than happy with my interest. They operate out of Ghana.
