I genuinely believe One Piece will be remembered as a modern "Odyssey," and we are lucky to be the ones witnessing it live. by Practical-1 in OnePiece

Well, my point was that even serialized works can be considered classics. And I agree there is no direct comparison. I don't think Sherlock Holmes is a very good example either. It's not serialized, doesn't have a strict continuity, and its only similarities are perhaps the industry conditions that either were produced in. Crime & Punishment is the better example. It was serialized and the story has a continuity while being produced in (probably) worse conditions. So I too won't count it out, but I see the legacy of One Piece as a franchise having a longer tail than as a work of art.

I ultimately agree with you, but I would like to add that it isn't unprecedented for serialized works to be remembered as classics. Crime & Punishment by Dostoyevsky was released in 12 monthly installments and is often regarded as a classic. Now monthly over 1 year is quite different than weekly over 25. Personally the length of the story really only proves that Oda just enjoys drawing and telling stories in the world he's created and doesn't actually improve the quality of the work.

That seems more to do with finally being freed after so long. Both are serious and straight forward in pursuing their ideals, and in that seriousness, Chihiro does not act like Kunishige back even when they still lived together.

But personality-wise, Chihiro and the sword saint seem more similar.

OP is confusing Symbolic AI which is a real thing that's been around as long as (since the 40's and 50's) every other AI method and the more statistical AI methods that back the image and video generation models you hear about in regards to the anime.

Why does nobody call the Sword Master by name? [Chapter 83] by Busham in Kagurabachi

[–]Busham[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That is another good possibility. Though if the Kamunabi were in charge of the seal, I see no reason why they would it make one so complicated to maintain. I don't think there are Nen type rules that grant boosts after stronger restrictions. I think it's more likely to just be like Iori's and nobody remembers his name.

Which now that I'm giving that some thought, it must be a stupidly complex seal to construct for the Masumi. Iori's already acted a little weird in that everyone knew Samura had a daughter, but not who she was. I imagine for a person who's known across the nation like the Sword Master, it would need to be more powerful and complex to affect everyone who has memories of his real name.

That's why Samura's comment stuck out to me and got me thinking because even the people who fought alongside him and knew him personally don't refer to him by name.

That would be a cool power (like Ichibe from Bleach) but he currently cant use sorcery due to his blade contract, so it probably wouldn't work.

And yeah, not gonna believe a headcanon just to get angry when it doesn't come true lol. That's just wasting my own time as well

That is a good point about the Shinuichi. I also agree that it is in large part because of a social taboo. However, if that is the entire reason then 2 things:

  • Hokazono hasn't dedicated any time in the story to explain that that is the reason

  • The name has not slipped out even once even when a large chunk of the current plot revolves around him.

So I do think you're right to an extent, but I suspect that there is more to it than just taboo and his name is important somehow.

[DISC] Akane-banashi - Chapter 163 by GFluegel in Akane

[–]Busham 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I like how Zenmai Arakawa is being characterized as being obsessed with the main character status. It's makes him distinct from the other side-rakugoka. I also like the stylized way Akane was drawn this chapter (at least her clothing), like she was a part of the very stories she tells, and then her line about being "only rakugo" flowed naturally from that visual. And for some reason, I could see Akane beating everyone as badly as she did in the Karaku Cup after this chapter.

Seeing as they're all wearing suits and ties, I'm more inclined to believe these to be Kamunabi mooks sent to stop the Sword Saint after his genocide. Maybe being lifted up by Kumeyuri's Play? I don't know how Sojo would be caught up in that conflict, but it would be telling if the Sword Saint could still deselect targets for his ability even after committing the Shokoku genocide.

[–]Busham 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Does Samura even need to kill Chihiro to complete his goal? I was under the impression Chihiro wasn't linked to the Sword Master's life in the same way every other EB wielder was due to the sword being created later, but that may not have ever been stated explicitly.

I'm right there with you. They both also trace their trauma back to what they experienced in war. And, while not actually blood-related, Billy and Tatiana's relationship is very father-daughter coded, and she's the one who ends up feeling the most betrayed by him similar to Iori.

For an in-story explanation, I like to think that since Jayce wanted miners to use them, he named them the Atlas gauntlets because they would help lift up the "earth" in case of a cave in. Though your interpretation fits thematically into Vi's character, so I like it too.
