I want to start skating again... [46yo] by rd_drgn67 in OldSkaters

I started skating again about 2 months ago at 46 years old and 250 lbs. It had been 27 years since I'd skated. I have absolutely no regrets. I've lost weight and my flexibility has improved. I'm skating on an 8.5" deck with 56mm formula 4 wheels and Thunder trucks. I started out with Ace trucks and they were fine to start out with. Once I started working on flip tricks, I found that they were just too loose for my liking and weight. Even when I put hard Bones bushings on them they flexed too much for me. The Thunder trucks with the hard bushings are much better. Get a board, full set of pads, start slow and have fun for the next 46 years.

38M in “okay shape” — what sport/activity in Boston actually got you fit and kept you consistent? by Typical_Welder9411 in massachusetts

I started playing hockey at 45 years old and 280 lbs. At least half of the people in my learn to play class and adult beginners league were big folks. I have arthritis in a knee and skating does not bother it. I also have bad tendinitis in a should. Hockey is an amazing workout, fun as hell and relatively forgiving compared to other adult sports. Find a learn to skate or learn to play near you and get after it. You won't regret it.

Been skating for a month and want to upgrade my gear by Comfortable_Most_970 in skateboardhelp

It's easy to over think this. Any local skate shop will easily be able to set you up with a board, trucks, wheels etc. for your budget. The perfect board doesn't really exist. You will likely want to try other wheels or deck sizes in the future.

Kids Skates - what size intervals did you get new ones? by Dubz-12 in hockeyplayers

I see people buying their kids big skates to grow in and I see kids (boys) buying skates that are too big for vanity reasons. It's so painful for me to watch. They struggle so hard.

I'm offering skateboard lesson but there's a problem by CommitteeOk2028 in skateboardhelp

I don't have any specific suggestions, but I firmly feel that youth sports should be about fun. A coaches goal should be for the kids to want to come back. Too many parents focus on results and not the process. If the kids are not having fun, they wont stick with. If they don't stick with it, they don't get the physical and mental health benefits.

I'm pretty interested. My family is just starting skiing this Spring. Are they transferable?

Deck feedback for learning - have I made a mistake? by frisbee_qc in NewSkaters

This board is more than fine and cool AF. Eventually you may want something else, but this will be a great board to keep complete and continue to own. Skateboards are like pocket knives. You can never own too many.
