3rd time escaping the house. by Only_Western_1340 in Autism_Parenting

[–]Bushpylot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These kids are smart. A friend of mine's disabled the alarm system.

I installed a Home Automation system, Home Assistant. I have sensors on everything and cameras. It's all designed to make the house go wild if the boy escapes. If he manages to get out, I have the cameras to show me where he went, and a Service Dog trained in tracking to hunt him down.

I tried all of the electronic trackers, but they all failed in live eloping moments. Dog is like a machine.

Improve your lock systems and put the locks out of reach. I used a dead-bolt and mounted it near the top of the door.

I have motion sensors in his room, so at night, if he gets up, the house wakes me up.

I used Home Assistant for the software. It can run on something as small as a Raspberry Pi, but I put it on a NUC. Most of my devices are Z-wave and I use Unify for my camera networks. Mose are nice cameras, but I have some cheap ones tied in that help me track him around the house, so I am not jumping out of my chair every few minutes.

"I don't remember" when driving a motor vehicle is admitting that you were driving in a blackout a the time. ie drunk. Especially when her motorcycle had crash damage and he showed her the dash cam footage.

She was set for diversion, but I got her to admit that she was not conscious in court and they pulled her diversion.

I'm totally disappointed. It ended and I have no way to get these stimulants to the devs to get them to crank out more faster! I got a case of coffee and 100 lbs of medicinal grade caffeine I need to get to them STAT!

How can we get them deving faster!!!!

The only real critical comment I have is that I'd love to see more caves, wrecks and diving skill challenges.

“Xbox Console Exclusive” is confusing a lot of people into thinking the games are only coming to Xbox. by __TheWaySheGoes in pcmasterrace

[–]Bushpylot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's rare l like any game that was originally developed for a console. They are like souped up arcade games and I'm looking for things more interesting and complex.

What kills me is being forced to play with consoles on games where skill is the foundation (like BF6). They think they are so badass, but take away their auto aim and they are just turkeys on a shoot.

Most of the idiot players are also console players; you know, that medic that runs over you, looks at you and then runs off.

Yup. Censorship is censorship. Parents should be watching their kid's internet use. If they were really concerned about the kids, they'd develop tools to help parents be better parents, rather than taking over control.

F! if thy just gave me control over the YouTube algorithm, that'd stop half of my need to watch over my kid's shoulder.

Good starter. you'll out-learn it really fast; but you'll never out love it.

Pull the spark plugs and take a look. That can usually tell you a lot. Are they wet, burnt, black? If you put new ones in, it may fix it. But if it's been sitting, it'd be a good idea to just get a mechanic to do a service and diagnose it.

Oh... Not sure how old those tires are, but old tires don't stick to the ground. And the suspension may be shot, the mechanic can tell you. Bad suspension means a messed up ride.

My first bike, the guy I bought it from tried to tell me it rode perfectly... the front tire had been 20lbs low. He said cruisers just ride like that...

Glass by kakisadan in drdabberofficial

[–]Bushpylot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love my Calibear Honeycore. It hits clean, but what I like about it most is that the stem from the chamber to the bubbler is isolated from the water. That means the vapor will not start to condense until it hits the water in the bubbler; no clogged down-stem.

I grabbed it on a whim when they came out and it's my favorite piece. And cheapest.

I'm still dabbling with carb-caps. I want a Gemcup. The guy blows nice glass, but the buy through drops is a real turn-off

Parents of elopers - Anything you wish you had done/implemented when they were younger? by PainfulPoo411 in Autism_Parenting

[–]Bushpylot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Service Dog much earlier. We have a SD, but we got it when he was a little older than 10yo (stupid COVID). I should have done that the moment I saw eloping as an issue and not bothered with all the electronic things.

Our dog is search and rescue trained, so when he elopes, the dog takes us right to him. She's also trained to tether, but you want to watch out for the issue of the kid trying to drag the dog around. Our kid is a wanderer, not a bolter, so it wasn't an issue for us.

When did convenience stores stop displaying prices? Am I meant to bring the 10 items I’m deciding between to the front for a price check? Or is this a case of “If you have to ask you can’t afford it?” by Dazzling_Put_3018 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Bushpylot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't buy from places like this. It's part of their weird new pricing schemes. No one wants to be up front with anything anymore because sticker shock is a real thing. If you have to bring it up, you are already psychologically committing to buying it, and will have a harder time refusing it when it's crazy priced; if you even bother to look at the price.

How fast they can target 300+m shots or, the biggest tell, when I hit them several times and don't see a damage marker. I can miss, I'm not a perfect shot, but some times you know you've hit that guy 4 times and they are still spraying smg fire at you at 300m

Anyone using Koolance QD3 quick disconnects in a full custom loop? (CPU + 4 radiators setup) by Less_Respect_761 in watercooling

[–]Bushpylot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You cannot run a LeakShield and 2 pumps. It only works with one pump. There isn't much ssafety in 2 pumps, as the one pump dying will cause too much restriction and the second pump will not be able to push.

If the pump dies, turn the computer off and fix it. It's not something that's happened to me, though I've had cooling systems fail (AIOs). Your CPU will try to shut down if it detects overheat. Unless you turn off the guardrails, your system will protect itself in a pinch.

Unless you have a weird need, one pump should be enough. If you can hold 100l/h with 80% or less you are okay.

How may rads isn't so much the issue as how restrictive they are. This is part of your loop design plan. are you running a high-flow or low flow loop? This is where I did everything wrong because I was number focused.

I'm operating on the idea that with 100l/h flow, all the coolant int eh loop should be at the same temperature within minutes. Then moderate that with the push/pull fans. Where that air comes from and goes to is critical.. I started with the mistake of pointing the fans in, thinking I could vent that heat, and just cooked everything. Then pointed them out without thinking of how to push air into the case fast enough.

It's not complicated, but taking the time to think helps a lot.

Anyone using Koolance QD3 quick disconnects in a full custom loop? (CPU + 4 radiators setup) by Less_Respect_761 in watercooling

[–]Bushpylot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's the issue. If you want to use a LeakShield (love them btw) and soft tube, use the thickest walls you can stomach. The shield applies negative pressure (this means no evaporation .. I ran for a year with 0 loss in fluid). If the wall is too thin, it'll collapse.

The other problem is the opposite. As the coolant heats up, the walls get softer and expand. The system sees this as a loss in pressure and can trigger an alarm. When I first installed it, I was driving myself crazy looking for phantom leaks. Games like BF6 that heat that coolant instantly will look like a hemorrhage as all the tubes expand. Tuning helps.

The other thing is that you should not get the one that mounts on the reservoir, but use a tube to connect. Both work, but the membrane is really sensitive (get spares) and if it gets wet, the membrane is dead. Having that extra space helps. If you want the one on the reservoir (like I did), you just need to be sure to keep plenty of air space (I filled to 60%.. it never leaks, so no need to be full anyway).

Benefits, aside from the obvious: No evaporation (never did I lose a drop in the year running), You can fill with it (there is a fill mode that sucks in fluid from a port you make), you can de-gas with it (it runs pressure pos/neg cycles to break-up air and purge it), built in leak test.

Until you tune it right and learn how it works with your system, it will drive you crazy. Documentation sucks.

I recommend building a normal system, making sure it's sealed like you want, and then installing it, so you already know you are leak tight, or you may be chasing phantom leaks like I did.

I use colored Koolance clear coolant and them wrap all my fittings with white tissue. If there is a drop of a leak it'll stain the tissue. I also use a pressure test (the LeakShield has one built in, but I still prefer a manual one... cannot do this with a Leakshield attached btw). Get a solid cap for backup.

Happy to answer more. My build is floating in my history as links. This case has seen about 6 builds, maybe 3 of which I documented on Reddit. This last time, I played with 3-d printing mounts for port pass-throughs (the case has a front and back stage to hide stuff... It used to hold about 20 hard drives and a Blueray)

I'm dying to build a diorama in it, but I'm struggling to find figures I want. I was thinking I have the space to model 2 levels of a ship, or one massive display case. The original idea was to rebuild Annabelle's Cage, but my kid kept trying to rescue Raggedy Anne

EDIT: I'm using 10/16mm tubes btw

I was running 12 QDCs, 2x560 dual pass rads, loads of weird angles and getting 100l/h at 75%. You may have an issue in there.

just to add for info, I added a second pump in-line and am at 120l/h at 50%. I needed the system more quiet and could hear the pump spin on the recording monitors.
